Tides Tavern, Gig Harbor

07 NOV 11 Food was sub-standard. I ordered the seafood plate and it consisted of 3 scallops the size of a dime. The so-called shrimp was butterflied and overcooked, really small as well. We invited 5 guests this evening and most of them had the fish and chips. Was really embarrassed that we recommended this place to our out of state friends.

This is a great place for a casual meal and drink. A definite Gig Harbor cornerstone. Food is good, staff are friendly and the tavern itself is comfortable and homey. Perfect place to bring visitors and guests!

I've been there twice. The first time, I entertained my boss, mistakenly chose this place based on residents reviews. We had an average meal. Seems like a fun place to meet locals. Second time, I took my daughter. I guess I did not understand at this particular restaurant, you cannot bring minors in for a meal. The smiling waitress politely asked us to leave, then proceeded to knock my new Droid on the floor, and made the comment, that at least I know where it is and will not be leaving it behind?! Not sure how to take that. She was friendly, but I will never be going back there. Place has real potential, but for now, it is a local hangout for folks who are happy with so-so food. Table was wobbly, sticky table.

Lunch or dinner on the deck can't be beat. Enjoy a drink or two with friends and just watch the boats come and go. On a clear sunny day the views are pretty nice. If you are facing the right direction, you will get a good view of Mt. Rainier.

trying to dock while you eat your fish and chips. or on Saturday, look out for the best chili around (it may not be on the menu). This is still a bit of authentic waterfront, and terrific fun to visit

I don't make it to the Tides more than a few times a year, but have always been pleased with the results when I do show up. This place is a gathering point for many Gig Harbor locals, so you know it has something to offer. I highly recommend the experience.

Nice place and beautiful view of the harbor, but the food is very overpriced for the size of portions you get. If you're going there just for a few drinks, that's a great idea, but I wouldn't suggest you go there expecting to get full if you order food. Good place to go during the summer cuz you can sit outside over the water.
