Best of the three Samish Way Thai places
Don't let the garishly ugly pink street sign or questionable location fool you - The food at On Rice is consistently sublime, featuring subtle overtones and complexities that are often drowned out by the sweetness and cloying flavors available to the Thai chef.
Particular favorites include the simple Green Curry (really good with chicken) and Red Curry (I prefer beef with this one). The Basil Fried Rice, another simple dish, includes a subtle smokiness that keeps the combination of flavors interesting for the entire experience.
Dinner is served with a small iceberg lettuce salad garnished with some carrot strips, made a little bit special by the addition of a hot sweat peanut dressing. During lunch, an uncommonly ordinary egg drop soup is served instead.
Busara, down the street at Sehome Way, is also an excellent Thai restaurant, and though I think that On Rice edges them out by a slight margin, I have friends who would reverse that order, and I enjoy both restaurants for a change of pace. With two world-class Thai places this close together, I'm not sure why anyone eats at the respectable but comparatively ordinary Lemon Grass in between them.
I should note that a few of the generically Asian dishes at On Rice, like Emperor's Cashew, seem like they are offered to appease someone looking for a Mandarin Chinese meal, and do not distinguish themselves as much as the more Thai-specific dishes.
