Coming from Colorado, we also have Maharaja. So I came to Seattle with high hopes. I wasn't disappointed. Maharaja presents good, reasonably authentic Indian cuisine that can delight beginners and the advanced alike. You have a choice- the buffet or you can order from the menu. The buffet is modest but it has a pleasant selection. The onion baji and the tandoori chicken goes fast!
Maharaja is very vegetarian friendly- one might say vegetarian dominant. I personally worship their Butter Chicken (Chicken Makhni) and the Saag Paneer (Spinach and Cheese). Nan (a flatbead) is free and provided a few minutes after you sit down.
The restaurant is generally small but its not hard to miss. They have a sign for the Buffet and Happy Hour outside on the sidewalk. The interior is reminiscent of a retrofitted house. The food is consistently good. I would also suggest the Chai, which is generally a bit delicate but tasty. The gentlemen who run it are generally friendly if a bit reserved.
The only drawback I have found is that they are a bit slow to replenish some of the favorites on the Buffet (like the Baji and Tandoori).
