Nice dining experience. But $130 for one person for a steak that wasn't cook right? Well over rated but a nice view. Oh wait, it was dark and couldn't see the view. But if you're rich, then does it really matter if the prices are throught the roof? I think the prices are high to keep out the riffraff.
impeccable service, beautiful view, and nice amenities. i ordered the vegetarian tasting menu. it was underwhelming, at best. for well over 100 dollars, i expected /much/ better food, but i guess one has to be interested in beef wellington or scallops to fully enjoy the culinary artists canlis boasts about. overall review: c+
I just have to say, I've never had a dining experience like Canlis, anywhere, let alone Seattle. It was my wife and I's 5 year wedding anniversary, and the staff, the food and the views over Lake Union were incredible. The wine list is top notch, and one of the sue chefs, I think his name was Taylor(?) came out to make sure everything was perfect. (Which it was!)
Our family (7 people) went to Canlis in early November '05 to celebrate my wife's 65th anniversary. We arrived at 6:15 PM, were seated at a very nice corner table, were served the appetizers, wine etc., and we then waited for one hour and ten minutes. That's right, 70 minutes and no food was served to us. A waiter then came by to say that the kitchen had some problems, and that the food would arrive shortly. Some other person then came by, and made the statement that the longer we wait, the better the food is going to taste. Well, we got up and left without dinner. When leaving, the Manager stated that he was not aware of any problems in the kitchen!!
Result: Forget Canlis!
