Old Szechuan Restaurant

Description

While Sichuanese Cuisine, this restaurant looks a bit plain, the food is simply stellar and well worth return visits. Sauces are thin and spicy, with vegetarian dishes standing out. The Dry-Roasted Long Beans are crunchy and garlicky, while the Szechuan Eggplant is quite possibly the spiciest eggplant in the city. Braised Beef Soup is considerably milder and a welcome addition to the table. While tea, juice and sodas are available, you have to bring your own drinks if you want something stronger.

Great little hole in the wall
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/07
This place is great! Very spicy foods, all very tasty, quick service and VERY affordable. We've been going there for a few years now, and since we moved out of town, go there every chance we are in Seattle.

I meet a group of college-age friends here every Friday and have to say its one of my favorites. I'm new to the area but no stranger to Chinese Food. When you go here, I'd suggest breaking from the standard faire. The Kung Paos and the Mongolian Beef are on the menu and they're good, if a bit delicate when it comes to the Kung Pao. But if you really want the great stuff, I would personally suggest the Dry-Cooked Chicken with String Beans or the Garlic Chicken. The Dumplings are also good friend or steamed. If you enjoy soup, try the Hot and Sour- though they aren't the best in this department. For those who prefer some spice to their soup, you'll need to use some of the pepper paste in it, which is given at the table. You'll need to ask for forks, as the standard is chopsticks. Its a modest little place (some might say a dive) that seats very few, but is usually packed. The portions- especially the soup- are very large. Expect to take some home, especially if you're in a small group or alone.

Delicious food with excellent service.
By Shaleka, 12/25/06
Though the restaraunt has a modest setting with small space, the service and food excell in ways that you would not imagine. I've been going to Sichuanese for 3 years now and they have never disspointed. The food is made fresh and once ordered, your food gets to you in quick time. The taste of the food just expodes in your mouth with different levels of peppers and other garnishments. This is certainly a family restaraunt that everyone can enjoy!!!

Best kept secret in Seattle
By Steve, 4/4/06
The food is authentic yet acceptable to mainstream taste. The flavor is like nothing else, if you like spicy that is. The price is unbeatable, I give it a 5 STAR. It's hard to get a table on weekends because they serve hotpot, and people just wouldn't leave, so go early or prepare to wait, either way, it's totally worth it.

Definitely returning - again and again and again
By M, 7/3/05
Beware: this restuarant serves up SPICY food. Food is strongly flavored and oh-so-worth it. I recommend the fish/cabbage in chili oil, the chicken with green jalapeno peppers, and the potstickers. It's a great value and definitely fills you up.

Eat here now
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/12/05
This was one of the best Sichuan meals I've had. Order the Pork with Bitter Melon (if you know and like bitter melon, that is), Dry-Cooked Chicken with String Beans and the seasonal Chinese Greens. You won't be disappointed!
