Chef's Kitchen is the best kept secret in Eugene. Looking at the building from the outside, it doesn't seem like it will be a very special dining experience. The drive by pick up window might give a potential first time diner reason to think he should turn around. But the volume of people driving by to pick up their meals to eat at home testifies to the popularity of the food. Serving dinner only allows Chef Tom (also known as Bruno) to check the markets each day to plan his menu, which guarantees diners the best ingredients available. The repertoir of exquisite food is absolutely amazing--everything from beef to lamb to fish. Tom has traveled extensively and trained in a variety of cuisines in several countries. As a result of his training, each plate coming out of his kitchen is a work of art both in flavor and--especially--in presentation. Be aware that the prices on the menu (hand made each day) can make one inhale if You are expecting ordinary food; but the extraordinary quality of the food and the beauty of the presentation make the experience both gratifying and satisfying, and make the price a bargain. Try to arrive early, as the indoors fills in very quickly and some items sell out. For spring/summer dining, the large covered patio is very comfortable and is heated when necessary. Tom's cooking and Bessie's serving always make for an enjoyable evening. Enjoy this crown jewel of Eugene restaurants! Chef's Kitchen day in day out makes the most consistently fabulous food of any restaurant in this part of Oregon.
