The chef's will prepare special order items at your request. My husband and I have frequently order egg foo young which is not on the menu. It's prepared in a large pan and resembles a large pancake which they present cut in quarters and topped with what they call gravy. The shrimp they use in all their dishes are actually prawns and not the small shrimp which is abundant in this coastal sea village. Service is fast and the waitresses are very attentive. We're not the only customers who feel this way. My ladies needlework group frequently enjoys a luncheon at this fine dining spot. The management never grumbles about seperate checks as large groups often request. My husband and I live around the corner from our favorite dining spot and often we will order certain items to go to complement what we are preparing at home and often as our entire meal. I notice quite often that the tourists have found their way into this establishment, probably on the recommendations of local residents. Prices are very reasonable and this establishment is always busy. So plan ahead. My tip: eat early then take a walk on the beach.
As a local customer I have been here many times over the years. They have always served good food and reasonable prices both lunch and dinner. They also have food to go if you wish. Specials are offered each day as well as wonderful combination dishes. They treat you well and have friendly servers as well. Great for small or large crowds, you won't walk away hungry!
We have been going to Kum Yon's for many years and the food is excellent! They have the best California Rolls in the world and also have a delicious array of Chinese food. The service is efficient and it is very reasonably priced. Highly Recommended!
In Newport this Chinese restaurant is the cleanest. The food is fresh especially the vegetables. I like the broccoli vegetarian stir fry. They have a good sauce that comes on it and nice portion for the dinner menu. Prices are fine for what you get. My boyfriend says the portions are too small for him. He always gets shrimp, pork fried rice, and chicken almond. He likes it but could eat more. Plenty of parking. The inside is casual but nice inside. I have gotten orders for take out and they are fairly good in portion size. They are closed on Sundays. Service is fine and if it's not busy there's not much of a wait.
I enjoy going to this Chinese/Korean restaurant. It is older, dark and a bit rundown maybe or just old decorations lol, but we love the old chinese family restaurant atmosphere. We have always had great service. Most of the time I enjoy the food immensely, but I guess it is what you choose. I love the daily special ( depending on what it is) that has a combination of the main dish, fried rice or steamed rice, 2 egg rolls small type light roll probably more Korean that the cinese egg roll that is heavily breaded, and comes with 2 potstickers. Both have a separate dip that I love. And choice of soup or salad. I love their Hot and Sour Soup - I have even bought some to take home since none of the restaurants in our area make a decent Hot and Sour Soup- but then again the choices are not good chinese food restaurants. I did have something, when the special was not what i wanted, that I did not particularly like, but like I said it depends on what you like and what you order. All in all we go about once a year whenever we go to Newport for a few days..
I live in the area and have been to Kum Yon's many times, it's always been good chinese food. However, within the past year or so I have noticed a few changes. Their portions have gotten smaller and they seem to have cheapened their product. They need to keep up their building better, the atmosphere is diminishing. I hope they go back to the way they were before
