Tio Pepe, Eugene

I hope this review gets to the owner. If your late wife saw what I had for dinner she would be rolling over. I have always had the pariada tio pepe. Tonight my meat was dry and tough with no flavor, as well with the beans and rice-no flavor. I don t get there very often but that used to be my favorite dinner. I ll give it one more try but at this point I don t really want to go back.

How did I miss this little gem for so long? We went tonight, a Tuesday night, and there were a surprising number of people there. That may be the reason the service wasn't excellent. However, the food was. And the servings were huge. After eating the nachos we shared, we were almost too full for our entree. My daughter and husband loved the cheese enchiladas which they thought had a hint of cinnamon. My steak fajitas that sizzled so long after they were served that they were slightly burnt -- some people must like the charbroiled taste. But it didn't slow me down -- I used plenty of the generous portions of condiments: shredded cheese, refries, and guacamole. We made sure we still had room to share a fried ice cream dessert. It was served in a crisp flour tortilla shell with plenty of strawberry sauce and whipped cream. The decor is cozy and colorful. Dark wood-planked ceiling, wrought-iron chandeliers and decorative insets, many booths, tiled niches, and carpeted floors. Noisy restaurants are my pet peeve, and this one passed with flying colors. We will be back.

Great place!! Fodd is always fresh and tasty, and service is good. Big portions and nice strong drinks from the bar. Good lunch specials as well.

I don't know how this place stays open. The food is very bland.

Our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant (read: lots of sour creme/guac sauce; not very spicy; lots of fried stuff) restaurant, and right in our 'hood. Not to be confused with an authentic Mexican restaurant (ie, Las Brazas). Best enchis in town!
