Good beer, bad food and so-so service. We went there for lunch. It is a nice venue, especially out on the porch, but I'd recommend going for beer only. Service was not great. The server was pretty busy, so that may have been part of the problem. We ordered an appetizer, but it came with our food. We had to ask several times for refills and for silverware. In addition, the burgers (both meat and bun) were dry and the soup of the day (a portabello mushroom soup) was almost tasteless. We have tried this place multiple times hoping we may have hit it on an 'off' day, but they have lost me as a customer. Lots of other places I can get good beer AND a good meal.
If you are a fan of IPA, The Workhorse IPA is the best beer in the world.
Rumor has it that they are taking over the spot where Bisquits used to be right next door and making it a bar for those who don't like kids running around all over the place. That will be outstanding. Suzie and Nicole are rad.
I have never had bad service here in the dozens of trips I've made to the Laurelwood. Things come quickly, even when they are busy. You are acknowledged as soon as you walk in and seated promptly. It's the best service!
The menu has a HUGE selection of TASTY dishes. The pricing is reasonable, too.
The beer is some of the best beer in town. And you can't beat the price, especially at happy hour.
Who would have thought there was such a place where one could have a good drink, good eats and not feel the need to completly silence your kids. Kids are not just tolorated, they are welcome. They have their own brew as well as a full bar. There garlic fries are to die for.
One of the great things about Portland are the brew pubs. When we had a kid, my husband and I thought our brew pub days were over, so we were excited to find a traditional Portland brew pub that we could bring our son to. The staff is all great with kids and the service is mostly excellent. The food is average to wonderful - the sandwiches, burgers and salads are great, the dinner entrees aren't always great. And the beer is really, really good too! Breakfast at the Laurelwood on the weekends is the our favorite, its not as packed as dinner and the food is always excellent. Plus, they make a great bloody mary. Our son loves the play area with the train table and lots of toy trucks and dinosaurs. The kids menu is pretty good too - the usual mac & cheese, grilled cheese etc. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone with kids!
So my wife won a gift card to this wonderful brewpub we have never heard of. We decided to check it out this beautiful evening. We took the kids and parked in right on 23rd. We were enchanted by the smell of the brewpub just as we were walking around the corner onto Kearney. We were greeted by a very nice hostess who took us upstairs to a 2nd floor outside eating area. Right next to the outside eating area there is a little corner set aside for children. It had toys and books. My oldest was pleasantly suprised. We sat outside, drank our awesome beer and watched her play until our food arrived. Jamie ordered the Grilled Salmon Melt and I ordered the Halibut Fish and Chips. The food was superb. Our server was awesome and very attentive. And did I mention the beer. WOW! This beer was some of the best I have ever tasted. Jamie drank a Organic Free Range Red and I had a couple glasses of Organic Tree Hugger Porter. We left feeling full, happy and wanting to come back. I would have to say, due to the family freindly atmosphere, great food, service and beer, that it is now my favorite brewpub.
