Such is the popularity of this Northwest Portland institution that it's difficult to obtain a table here at the last minute. Taking its name from a celebrated Viennese composer, Papa Haydn serves up an excellent selection of American comfort food in an elegant environment. The menu is diverse and offers a superb selection of meat and seafood entrees along with a good choice in sandwiches and salads. Try the Pasta Verdura, the carbo-lover's delight. Be sure to sample one of their famous desserts, like the berry tart. Enjoy a cup of steaming coffee or a drink from the full-service bar. Feel free to enjoy a lighter meal in the adjacent Jo Bar and Rotisserie .
One star only for the nice waiter. $13.00 cheese plate which consisted of 4 triangles of cheese (2 chedder, 2 some kind of white cheese) a few cubes of bleu cheese, 4 cubes of quince (?!) 6 crackers. Ridiculous! $18.00 paella with 4 shrimp, 3 muscles and little tine dices of ham that was not mentioned on the menu. I'm vegetarian! spent the whole dinner plucking out little tiny ham cubes.Hottest day of the year and no air. A fan would have been great!
I understand that people mainly go here for the desserts, but we came for dinner. Had always heard great things, Totally disapointed. Over priced, Over rated!
Dropped in this past week for a nite out with the wife, and while the food was good (a steak actually cooked to order), service was good, the desserts we took home were definatly the highlight of the evening.
I'm a sucker for sweets, and let me tell you, Papa Haydn can definitely fulfill my sweet tooth! Their desserts were the best i've ever had! The Autumn Meringue.....mmmm....with a good cup of coffee! And it is the perfect little restaurant with reasonable prices!
What a great place to enjoy the best desserts around. Grab a slice of your favorite cake from their menu of 20+ desserts and you will be thrilled. I am a chocolate fan and this is the place. Grab a hunk and hit the sidewalk outside in nice weather - great place to people watch on 23rd. Lunch and dinner are awesome too. Seem to be on the lighter side for lunch. I HIGHLY suggest the dessert menu here and if you have special occasion that calls for a cake, TRY THEM!
