Nicholas Restaurant

Description

The small street-side diner has sidewalk seating and a casual atmosphere. Originally only pizza and calzone were served here, but the family added Lebanese dishes to the menu once the restaurant was established. Nicholas Dibe and his wife, Linda, run the place. Linda makes fresh tabouli, baklava and humus while Nicholas bakes the bread and roasts the eggplant. Although there is meat on the menu, this restaurant offers many vegetarian dishes. Try Mjadra, a rice and lentil concoction seasoned with olive oil, sauteed onions and spices ($6.25).

Average food, expensive prices!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/10
I've been here twice once in the new gresham location and once in the grand/portland location and both times, ive had slow service, the food is average, and i left hungry after spending $20dollars. Its a nice sit down restaurant, I would reccomend Ya hala or somewhere else for the price. If it wasn't so expensive i would give it a extra star.

Nicholas' is still great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/17/10
I'm 31 and I have been going to Nicholas' since I was in high school. The food is fantastic. The decor is not very snazzy, but the food is amazing and priced inexpensively. In high school I was thrilled to be paying just for the food, not for the atmosphere.

Nicholas Restaurant

This place is great for your mediteranian flavor. They make their own pita bread and is always hot out of the oven. I love the hummas plate with the pita bread. The place is always crowded, because the place is kind of small. Try to go on off hours.

Best mezza plate
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/15/09
This place is a local favorite yet always crowded. It's great to order the Mezza plate for two and get stuffed. They make their own pita which warm and delicious. The place is small so expect to cozy up to your neighbor

Funky little Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/08
The Nicholas Restaurant is a quaint little place on Grand Ave. They make really good pizza, thin crust that is very different but very good. They are often very busty from the local people in the area. Worth a try.

every time i return to portland i visit this place. tabuli, hummus, warm pita bread. the seating is cramped and there is often a wait, but it is well worth it. cheap, good eats.

Good Lebanese food. The restaurant is very small, so go there for the food. I wouldn't take a date there but the food is quite enjoyable and the portions generous with vegan and vegetarian options.

I have been to many middle-eastern restaurants both in the US and abroad and I can honestly say that as far as I am concerned Nicholas' has some of the best food I have had. The pita is made fresh in the oven and brought to your table while still warm. My favorite thing to get is the vegetarian mezza which comes with a large helping of humus, tadziki, tabbouleh and then they bring you a triangle bread stuffed with spinach and a small zaatar-style bread. I also order a cup of hot tea with fresh mint in it. I have never had any food here that I did not like. Currently I am overseas in Korea but when I go back to Portland this will be the first restaurant I go to! If you go and it is busy make sure that you put your name on the list on the door. The restaurant is rather small so you may have to wait for a seat... but the wait is worth it.

This is my favorite place in Portland. The place is nothing fancy and can be easily missed, but the food is the best. I especially love the bread and yellow pilaf they serve. The vegetarian kabob is one of our favorites.

Worst service I've ever had. Server basically gave us the food and that's it. The food was decent for the price, but I don't plan on coming back ever again.
