Vincente's Gourmet Pizza
This intimate pizzeria offers some of the best and most unusual pizzas in town, supported amply by the huge salads and calzones. The pizza selection is diverse and offers and excellent choice including a fair list of vegetarian pizzas. Meat eaters might want to try a pesto with lamb pizzalamb sausage on basil pesto with artichoke hearts, feta and fontina. Vegetarian options include the enticing Grecian with roma tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta and roasted garlic. Pizzas come in 12 and 16 inch variations with the latter advised only if there's more than one diner involved. For lighter appetites, ask for pizzas by the slice. If you have something more elaborate in mind than the menu affords, you can also 'Design Your Own Pizzas' with your own choice of toppings. The place attracts a lot of youngsters and atmosphere is suitably casual. Take out and local delivery is available.
I used to be excited to go out here, but the quality has gone down hill. Our most recent pizza was under cooked, the ingredients were not evenly distributed and customer service poor.
Sorry but for the price next time I'll go somewhere else.
I'm a Portlandian born and bred. And when I think of the streets of my hometown I say they don't come much cooler than SE Hawthorne. And when I think of good pizza I automatically think Vincente's--even over Oasis and Apizza Scholl's up the street. A mixture of the quality food, casual ambiance and mesmerizing art makes it my favorite pizza joint in the world. Cool vegetarians will love the Mad Italian.
Quite possibly the best pizza on the planet. I lived in portland for many years and know many of the better pizza places. Now that I work overseas, Vincentes is one of our first stops when we're home. Try the spinich salad. Excellent. As is their delux pepperoni. Root beer and Micro brews. I've got to stop. I'm getting hungry and I'm in N. Africa. Last time we were there we went next door afterwards to Imbibe and caught some great live folk music.
Vincentes is gourmet, and you pay for it, but the crust is crisp & tasty, the sauce just right, and toppings all top notch. And they don't skimp on toppings if you have multiple toppings.... Always cooked perfectly, I have never had a mediocre pizza from Vincentes. Not cheap for a family of 5 though & sometimes the wait can be long. But it's a nice place to hang out and they have games to play (the only place we ever play Trivial Pursuit, for which I am glad).
