Umenoki Japanese Restaurant, Portland

If you are looking for a quiet restaurant that's not only beautiful, but has excellent food and service, this is the place! You're greeted with smiles from the moment you walk in. They take your arm and lead you to your table, sitting down with you while you decide what you would like to eat. The food is made quickly, but is by far the best. I mentioned to our server that their Miso soup was the best I'd ever had. She told us (in limited english) that she was the one who made it. And ever since, I am given a large carry-out bowl of it every time I leave. If you enjoy wine, make sure you ask them for their Choya Plum Wine. It's a fine dessert wine, for those who can't stand the sometimes bitter bite of most wines. It's sweet and almost like drinking candy. I could go on forever about this place. So I really should stop. But if you've never had sushi before or even if you are a sushi enthusiast, I highly recommend Umenoki. Just ask my co-workers, I rave about it all the time.
