I enjoy taking my date to an upscale restaurant like the City Grill. The food is good, the table service is excellent, and the atmosphere is incredible. However, I don't enjoy sitting on a stiff, uncomfortable chair to wait on my reservation that was, taken easy enough, but not fullfilled upon our arrival. It was Valentines Day, I'll give them that, but that really should not matter. If I reserve a table for an 8 o'clock dinner then I should be seated at my table no later than 8:05. We sat in a waiting room for 45 minutes before venturing out to see what was the holdup. This is unacceptable. After chatting with the hostess we stood against a wall of wines for an additional 10 minutes before, finally, being shown to our table.
Once seated the dinner was superb and the views were the best.
I'd recommend to anyone not afraid of a long wait before a good meal.
To begin with, the view. Simply amazing. But, it was the finest dining experience I've had in my 18 years in the city. The service was outstanding - the food was superb, as was the wine. Our server was not only professional, but personable. She added her opinions, offer tastes and reviews of wines, and kept the experience entertaining.
Portland city grill is one of the most romantic resturants in the city! The food is excellent, the presentation extrodinaire! The service is top notch and very professional. The staff has a very broad knowledge of all the different dishes served. They have a devine way of describing a dish that makes you long for it before they have finished.
If you make arrangements for a window seat, get ready for a spectacular view of the city and outlying areas. Go close to sunset, and see a breath taking sunset followed by the lights of the city. If you go be sure to order the cookies at dessert. They take a little time to prepare, but the wait is worth it! These decitant cookies are cooked fresh right after you order them! They trully are, a little piece of heaven, served hot to your table, just like mom's kithchen.
It's a breathtaking look at North, South and East, from downtown Portland to Mt. Hood. Fortunately, though it could easily be all about the view, this restaurant excells in service and food too. Be prepared to wait a couple of hours if you want a table by the window, the spectacular scenery encourages a leisurely dining pace.
Being 30 floors above street level, the view from this place is... awesome. As good as you can get in Portland anyway. It's been a while since I've been there but I remember the drinks were great and the happy hour menu even better!
