The Ponzi Family has been producing world class wines in the northern Willamette Valley since 1970. For over 40 years they have been leading participants in the development of the Oregon wine region, which currently boasts over 400 wineries. As the region grows, wine touring has become increasingly popular and important to the development of the Willamette Valleyac2s wine country. Tourism overall is now one of Oregonac2s leading industries. In 1999, the Ponzi Family recognized the rapidly increasing enthusiasm for wine touring was not supported by sufficient fine dining facilities located in wine country. They took a risk, one some observers described as overly ambitious and naively premature. They conceived, constructed and continue to operate the culinary center in the tiny, but perfectly situated, town of Dundee. The center presents The Dundee Bistro and the Ponzi Wine Bar, showcasing the regionac2s finest wines. Reception to the facility has been overwhelming, garnering local popularity along with excellent reviews and recommendations in national media.
I stumbled across the Ponzi Winery and their restaurant on March 11 and was pleasantly surprised. Dining in the restaurant was like stumbling into a show from Food Network. A real restaurant, with real chefs, cooking real, locally-sourced food. The menu is printed twice daily and gives credit to the chefs and the local suppliers which was unusual and informative. I had no idea that Oregon had so many types of food in production. The staff presented us with an amuse bouche which is always a pleasant surprise (pate filled chicken wings with toast point and dressing). The parsnip soup was fantastic and I enjoyed the sliced lamb sandwich. Service was friendly and attentive as was the manager at the end of the meal. I will return to the Dundee Bistro the next time I am in the area.
AWFUL!!! I had better service at Shari's! Our waiter did not check on us for anything, including drinks!! However he had time to check on his other table about 5-7 times. He was only serving two tables at this time. The person was who was in charge was talking on the phone w/personal phone conversations during our whole visit. I know this because I over heard it as I was walking to the restroom. The waiters and hostesses sat arounf the front desk talking instead of checking on their customers. I was willing to spend the money on their food and wine that wasn't that good, well I guess the wine was good. Very disappointed and will NEVER BE BACK!!!! They try to be top notch w/reservations but really they are high school drop outs waiting on you!!
