We found this place in 2006 on our first visit to Portland. I've now been there 4 times! In a word, it's lovely! Good food; good beer; good service; great atmosphere; lots of local traffic; good soccer on the TVs. Simply an enjoyable place to hang out with friends and family. (BTW, we are in our 40's, and with teenagers!)
great fun! wonderful authentic irish band. people dancing jigs. guinness. whiskey. friendly staff and patrons. most fun we've had at a bar since college. and we are 40+! but don't let our advance age scare you, you young-uns - there were all ages present and having a blast: people in their early twenties on up to one sweet grandma type sitting at a table with her whiskey in front of her. husband says he always feels like he's visiting old ireland (and he's been there many times on business)! a must-visit establishment. go there!
The band took a hour and ten minute break, then played a Johnny Cash song and when they started a Sublime song we walked out!!! We didn't hear an Irish song all night and the most fun we had was singing Irish songs on the way HOME!!!
I went to Kells for New Years Eve and I cant remember half the night. It was awesome. Definitely get an irish car bomb, thats a must! Downstairs is the smoking area and upstairs is an awesome ballroom.
What can I say - Excellence. I strongly recommend the daily lunch specials - I have not been disappointed with the quality or quantity of the meals.
Excellent Cigar smoking selection and seating in the basement.
Ambiance is good, nice atmosphere and decorations - would like to hear more Irish music than watch TV though.
Service is generally very good, even when busy.
