Saburo's Sushi House Rstrnt

Description

You will have to wait your turn to sample the sushi in this packed little joint. The long line of customers during all business hours can only mean one thing, this is sushi worth waiting for. Three experienced sushi chefs create the tender, flavorful morsels. Those who dislike fish will still want to give this place a try. Chicken and other meat dishes, as well as vegetarian items, are just as good. Wine and beer are available.

Easily one of the best sushi houses in Portland - nay, the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There are many aspects that separate Saburo's from other sushi houses. I have compiled a short list: Texas-sized portions (traditional sushi portions are much smaller), fresh and tasty fish, excellent service (don't be discouraged by the busy wait staff...the food is well worth it), reasonable priced menu. The only draw back to prepare yourself for is a possible 30+ minute wait in line. If you arrive 30 minutes prior to opening you can guarantee yourself a table. So, what are you waiting for?

Plan to arrive at least 30 mins before you want to eat to get on the waiting list. But don't worry, it's well worth the wait! The portions are HUGE - don't order your normal amount or you'll be taking a full meal home with you! The wait staff isn't the best and like I mentioned, the wait can be quite long, but despite all that you get a lot of delicious sushi for your $.

The best Susi restaurant I have been to! With the exception of the long wait, the sushi is good, the prices are cheap and the portions are big!

By far the best
By Adam S, 4/26/07
By far the best sushi restaurant in town. You get huge portions for the same price as the competition, not mention it tastes fantastic. The only catch is that their hours are terrible (they open at 5pm...?) and you'll no doubt have to wait in line for an hour at least. Even so, I've been to a dozen sushi places in Portland and I'd have to say Saburo's puts them all to shame.

Big portions+Good prices+Great Taste= Happy Tummy!
By todzilla, 3/16/06
Went on a Thursday night and missed the lines (I've heard they can get a little out of control and be very long). The sushi portions were huge and at about the same price that you would find at most other establishments. My favorite had to be the Kani (or crab). Unlike most places that use a mixture of imitation crab and mayo, they used real crab with a hint of wasabi and they were huge! I couldn't fit a whole piece in my mouth. My only problem is that you only get one chance to order, which is understandable, but too bad as I am unable to try something and say order more of it later (I'm pretty sure they do it to limit wait times for other customers). All in all it was a great experience and a great restaurant. Best Sushi I've had in Portland.

Great sushi - BIG PORTIONS!
By Eric, 10/4/05
Best sushi in town! Big portions. Careful how much you order, unless you want leftovers. The wait can be a little long. I've always found the service friendly.

Huge sushi portions - great price
By ydekiba, 9/29/05
Sure there is a line most of the time, the place is small (although the recent renovation expanded it a bit more), the service isn't always friendly... BUT the food is great and the value is amazing! Highly recommended for sushi lovers - all our friends we have taken (from SanFran, NY, Japan) our AMAZED at the size of the sushi and the price. Yes, if you're looking for a good ambiance and quality restaurant this isn't the place for you. But it's like a typical Japanese 'izakaya' (sake bar restaurant) and it has it's old charms and coziness. And again, the food is worth the wait - you just have to go there before the dinner rush.

Most Filling Sushi in Town
By Jocelyn, 9/27/05
Always thought sushi never made a full meal??? Once you've eaten at this small restaurant, other sushi portions will seem dwarfed. Best to come early, as this place has lines and lines of locals waiting to dine.
