This is one of those little hole in the wall restuarants; cramped, boring, and a bit depressing. However, the food is great and very affordable. So, get it to go, and enjoy!
While I do like sushi and it is on the menu at Tokoyo; I've never ordered it and so, I cannot address the quality of the sushi here. I have not been avoiding the sushi for any reason. I just really love their tempura vegatables, teriyaki, and katsu so much, that I never think of ordering anything else!
If you can, phone order and pick-up. Depending on how busy they are, it could be a bit of a wait if you order at the counter. Other times, you are in and out within ten minutes.
The restuarant does have limited seating, but I really prefer to take-out. I dined in once a couple of years back, and apparently the waitress and the cook were having an arguement in the kitchen. In such a small space, the negativity could be felt throughout the whole restuarant. I've dined in since, and while the staff wasn't agruing, I still find the seating area dull to depressing.
However, the food is great and very inexpensive, making it one of my favorite restuarants in Astoria.
