As a new Gladstone resident I've been trying to keep my money in the community by supporting local businesses. I had a bad experience with my first meal at High Rocks but it was breakfast and I assumed it was an isolated experience. Tuesday night I was hungry for a steak dinner and decided to give them another try. I took my friend and found that their Tuesday night special was a steak Two-fer with 3 choices of steak, we settled on the rib-eye the menu billed it as a 16oz rib-eye and that fit the bill, It came with soup or salad and a starch. Chose the baked potato and salad and ordered an appetizer of onion rings. The onion rings were excellant, the salad had to be cut into bite-size portions and the baked potato was a real baked potato. They had what looked like a buffet set-up directly infront of our table and the steaks they were cooking in the dining area looked good even if watching the cook eat while he was cooking them was not appetizing. The real dissapointment was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, what was delivered to the table appeared to be about a 6 oz portion, it was not quite 3/8 of an inch thick and mine had no pink in it, The steak was tough, grizzly and not medium rare, after trying to cut off 3 bites I decided it was far more work than it was worth. The waitress brought me a to-go box so I could take it home for my dog. He ate it, (but was not as excited as when I bring him home a one dollar plain McDouble) I paid the $33.90 bill, tipped the waitress $7.00 and was left with a poor taste in my mouth due to their very misleading two-fer promotion. I was out $40.90 cents but am still looking for something to eat. I will continue to support other Gladstone retailers and service providers but will not be dining at High Rocks again. The waitress confirmed that the cook said it was an 8oz portion. If I'd had a scale with me I could have proven him wrong. No wonder the dining room had so few people in it.
