Although it is a little on the pricey side, Mariposa's food is excellent. I've been there a handful of times and the service has always been great and the food top notch. I think eating outdoors on the balcony is overrated though. The traffic noise is a little too much for me. Overall, I'll continue to come to Mariposa's.
First time I went there for lunch I was very dissappointed. Next time was for dinner and it was pretty good. Reason being was somebody else was paying for it. Its a nice location and all but you can get a whole lot better for a whole lot less and not too far away.
I have lived in Waikiki for the past two years and this was the first time I ate here. I relocated from NYC, so I have been spoiled by great restaurants.
I went for lunch and sat on the balcony outside. I enjoyed a leisurely and superb meal while soaking in the beautiful ocean view! I will definitely go back again.
I recently (Dec. 2006) took some out of town family to Mariposa for lunch, and we all really enjoyed the experience. The popovers they serve instead of rolls was excellent, along with the little amuse bouche of consomme.
We all ordered different entree salads or pasta, and our lunch came so fast we were all surprised. The salads and pasta were great, we were very comfortable, and the view of the beach, complete with swaying coconut trees was also fantastic. The restaurant is inside a department store, in a mall, yet it has the feel of a beachside stand-alone restaurant - with the length of the restaurant open to ocean views atop a balcony with palm frond fans.
The feel of the restaurant is very luxurious, and the service was great - everyone was very friendly and accomodating. Our waiter was genuinely friendly, and not fake-friendly (most people can tell when they are just acting, right?), and overall, I have to say, my guests and I were pleased with the whole dining experience.
I had lunch there about a week ago and had a fabulous experience. The staff was friendly, the service was spectacular and the food was downright decadent. They brought out a small cup of consume and a popover pastry when I sat down that set the tone for the rest of the meal. The lunch itself was beautifully plated and of course prepared perfectly. This place is definitely worth trying.
