Don’t do it. Save yourself the hassle and money and dine elsewhere. The servers are not accommodating at all, including the so-called management. When we asked for something as minimal as bread for the table, we were given a long explanation from the server and John the manager on duty about how the bread was no longer available. However, shortly afterwards, we witnessed other tables receiving bread, most likely without even requesting it. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of a MUCH LARGER ISSUE. My husband and I were there as part of a large group and at the end of the meal, we were all informed that separate checks could not be issued and that we would all have to remain on one large check. Once again, John, the manager on duty failed to correct the situation when it was brought to his attention. This forced everyone to recall everything they had ordered (drinks, appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc.), circle it on the bill, pay for it one person at a time and then pass the bill around the table for everyone else to do the same. Needless to say, this created confusion that could have very easily been avoided if the servers weren’t being lazy about splitting the check AND if John would’ve performed his duties as a true manager. Everyone paid their portion of the bill and left the restaurant only to find out the next day, there were UNAUTHORIZED pending CHARGES placed on credit cards. One credit card in particular had a pending charge for close to $800 and was only authorized by the credit card holder for $200!!! So not only did the Top of Waikiki receive payments from each individual in our party via cash or credit card, they also tried to make one individual pay for the ENTIRE BILL. So again, I urge you to avoid this disaster and dine elsewhere. Top of Waikiki is overrated, overpriced, the service is substandard at best and the food is mediocre. If anyone from the Top of Waikiki management is reading this review, I DARE YOU to challenge this TRUE STORY.
My son lives in Hawaii and I came to visit from SC, other family members came to visit from WI. We had been to Hawaii before and were excited to see Top Of Waikiki but left there quite disappointed. The happy hour specials were good but the bartenders behind the bar were rude and we never once saw a smile on their faces, we felt we were intruders and bothering them. We were here having a good time but by the time we left there we were miserable. Also the place has a nasty smell. I will never recommend this place to anyone!
Think twice before you make plans here. Myself and my new husband made reservations here for our wedding 6 months in advance. On our wedding night, while in the limo, on the way to the resteraunt with all our family members, they called us to tell us that our reservation had been cancelled due to a power hit to their building. The entire rest of the block was fine, but only their building had a power issue. I know this because we ate at Atlantis next door (Great place btw). We had asked the hostess to recomend a new destination and they couldn't even do that. When my husband called the manager the next day, he informed that they had taken the power hit at 5 pm when they opened, a good 2 hours before they called to cancel our reservation. The manager was also very unapoligetic and they never even offered any type of feel good fix. I would never recomend this place to anyone, if they can't keep their power on they are not worthy to be in business. I'll admit I am a little jaded by the experience, but come on, it was my wedding day and I had two 81+ year old grandmas with us, not great for venue changes.
This was our favorite Dinner in our 2 weeks in the Island. View is Fabulous. Food was fantastic! Service was outstanding. Had the Fondue Fromage for appetizer, the early special which is from 5:30 to 6:30 - this was steak and lump crabcake. Appetizer, dinner, per dinner drinks and a bottle of wine came to under $120 for two people, Great atmosphere!
The staff there is just rude and stupid. Don't waste your time or money.
My wife and I went there around 7 on a monday night right before the flight back home. We only had about 1.5 hours to eat. It was obvious that the kitchen was backed up. Several diners around us were complaining about the food taking so long and it took our waiter 10 minutes just to get us water. I decided not to take the chance and just ordered the fondue appetizer for two. The waiter said since we are not ordering entrees he would like us to sit at the bar. I told him I was afraid the wait would be too long if we ordered entrees and preferred to stay at the table. He got upset and went to the hostess and then disappeared. The hostess told us we needed to sit at the bar. I told her it is not our fault their kitchen was backed up and we left. The experience left a stain on our trip. It was a horrible ending to a wonderful vacation.
We stuck to the happy hour (and happy hour food offereings). The drinks were reasonable and well prepared and the appetizers were very good.
You can't be the rotating view and the service (from the bartender) was great.
My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant and it was EXCELLENT to say the least. It was our wedding anniversary and we totally enjoyed the food, dessert and customer service that this restaurant provided. The executive chef went to every table to make sure that our dinners were to our liking. We recommend Top of Waikiki 100%
New York couple
Ahhh the Top of Waikiki...Me and my husband (on our honeymoon) decided to give it a try, so we got all dressed up, since we were under the impression, it was one of top resturaunts in Honolulu. We got there around 8:30 and the place was dead. Could not get a window view since there was no waitress/waiter on duty for that section. Kinda disapointing, but no big deal.
The menu listed foods I never heard of (out of my league, I guess) and worse, there were no prices???!!! Hmmmm..I thought as I looked into my husbands nervous eyes. I ordered some kinda pork, and it was good (really good actually) but it lasted ummmm about 3 bites? Thats one less bite than my husband took to finish his steak. The bread could've busted stone or in worse case scenario, chipped a tooth or 2 (waiter informed me that it was baked that way) Hmmmm, I thought again. Embarassed to do so, my hubby passed on asking the price (you know what they say...If ya have to ask the price..etc..) This of course did not help him relax enough to enjoy his 2 ounce steak. But dont get my wrong..We dont mind paying good for good meals. We had went to DKs steakhouse earlier in the week and spent $125. But to make a sad story short, the $140 something we spent at Top of Waikiki, provided us with 4 cocktails, about 4 mins worth of eating, and we couldnt even overlook the city as we did so. Good food, good drinks, but wouldnt go back for half the price. Get a outdoor table at DK's (much more romantic and fufiling)
