This tiny award-winning Viet-French hybrid is tucked in along the right hand side of Maunakea street amidst lei stands and Asian grocery stalls. It may take a pass or more to find it and street parking but it's well worth it. Locals are the mainstay at this stylish Chinatown spot where they know the fusion menu is enough of leap from traditional Asian eateries in the area to keep the foodies perpetually humming. The menu lists everything from escargot to Vietnamese Basa with crayfish sauce. - Lottie Tagupa
The first time I walked into Duc's off Maunakea Street, I was trully amazed. Its a very nicely appointed Bistro that has a very inviting bar, though no one was in it during lunch. The menu is new French and I think the chef and owner is Viet. Prices were a bit dear, but the overall meal was worth it. The wait help was a little useless, but maybe they were having a bad day. This would be a good place to take a date. If you park in the municipal parking garage on Beretania and turn left into the basement level, the pedestrian exit comes out right next to Ducs.
The first time i went to ducs the atmosphere was brilliant, Duc is Vietnamese and his wife wanted to capture the essence of la vien rose with the light pink lights, atmosphere PERFECT, the bar is very inviting and this bar has old world charm and sophistacation of a French Bistro! Cliente' upscale, menu selections Fresh! and there is ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSTITUTE FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE! visited 3 times just to make sure it was for real...MUST SEE DOWNTOWN..if you can find it..def. worth the look! Made some new friends!
