Chuck Rolles, the owner and proprietor of this eatery, has been credited with the creation of the steak and salad bar combination. He opened this particular establishment in 1959, and it has been a fixture of Waikiki ever since. Menus are painted on wine bottles, the steaks are good quality, and the salad selection is extensive. The friendly and unpretentious wait staff is always ready to assist you. Try the slow-roasted prime rib; it's a great dish at a fair price.
The Sax guy's Jazz music was wonderful, but the service sucks and the wait staff are rude and the food needs a better chef. For the over priced steak , it was over done, Happy Hour is just 1 hr long. The mgr was rude when I complained about the steak and sent me another one that was like the 1st one(BAD) Old decor and hot as heck in there. The music on Sat was too old for me. They are in need of new management and a better dressed and looking wait staff, they all look like they should be working at Walmart.
I've dined at Chuck's Cellar dozens of times over the past 4 years, and I have always been impressed by the quality and service. The local staff is the most friendly that I have ever encountered on the island of Oahu. The current bartender, as well as the one before him, are both local Filipino guys who are the most welcoming, warmest, and best mixologists (by far) on the island. I have not tasted one bite of food from this restaurant that was not excellent; the prime rib is exquisite and the seafood is exemplary. Unlike the majority of other places that have great food on Oahu, there is no “snobby” attitude in Chuck’s Cellar. Everyone is very down-to-earth and great at what they do.
A great place for dinner. The bar is huge but rarely full. The whole place feels like a refuge from the insanity of the honolulu streets above. The food is excellent, especially the fresh fish and the prime rib. I'm out here on business a lot and always make at least 2-3 trips there with my co-workers (who also love the place). The real secret is what is included with your meal, fresh bread, soup and a salad bar. None of that a la carte nonsense. You leave feeling fed and fed well. Rarely need to wait for a table. Great staff. I highly recommend.
In 1966, my wife an I honeymooned in Honolulu and discovered the Cellar (3 times in one week). We rediscovered it last week and enjoyed again the best prime rib we've ever eaten.
What a great evening!
Simple, sophisticated and peaceful, this is a welcome retreat from the hectic rush of Waikiki. It caters to an almost
entirely Japanese clientele, although some Western tourists wander in from time to time. Order a la carte or opt ...
The biggest reason everyone gathers at this beachfront restaurant is the music and the patio sunsets. The sound is "Contemporary
Hawaiian" and appeals to a youngish demographic. The food includes fresh fish, burgers and a tasty club sandwich. The ...
Readers of "Honolulu Magazine" consistently rate this as the most romantic restaurant not to mention one of the top Italian
restaurants at Oahu. The cosmopolitan tropical location is unbeatable, and the service strikes just the right balance between attentive ...
