Murphy's Bar & Grill

Description

This hybrid bar and grill is somewhere between a Irish Pub and a laid-back island-style cafe. Set in the middle of downtown Honolulu, it is a favorite hang-out for the business and media communities and one of the only places in the Hawaiian Islands where you can get a pint of Guinness from the tap. While the bar roars with excitement, the restaurant serves great salads, steaks and other fare at decent prices. The food is fresh, and the service is congenial.

Murphy's Bar & Grill is worth going to.

A St Patricks Day Staple on Oahu! They have great food, drinks and bar atmosphere. The shuffle board is a great novelty. I'd recommend the fish and chips !

It really didn't feel like a bar to me, but I ordered calamari and jalapeno poppers and was a-ok. I'd return, but you get more of a bar feel across the street at O'Tooles.

Best bar in Honolulu to grab a drink, a good steak, and meet with friends. I hung out here for three plus years while living in Hawaii. Food is excellent and affordable. Jonathan the bartender is the best on the island- ask him to make you a Long Island Iced Tea! They rock!

Murphy's is a MUST
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/06
When I first walked in I knew that I was someplace special. From the intricate details & memorabelia on the walls of the bar, to the friendly staff and killer grinds -- this place is awesome! Everytime I'm in Hawaii I come & eat here -- for the quality and quantity of food, it's a steal! When you are lucky, they even have homemade desserts that are out of this world!

Comfort Food with a capital C
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/23/06
Well, I have lived on Nuuanu for 2 years and never gone into this resturant. I had been having a bad week and my B/F, a fellow Irishman, took me here. We had the most amazing lambshank braised in wine with root vegetables, served with mashed potatoes. It was so big that we shared it. The soup of the day was a shrimp bisque which plenty of shrimp. The lamb simply fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. It was comfort food to the maximum. I enjoyed all theses flavors with a nice Black Lable scotch on just 2 rocks...lol as my B/F tries to make me a scotch drinker. We topped this off with the bread pudding, it was sinful, soft and warm, with carmel sauce and vanilla ice cream. The funny thing is, the next day when my girlfriend was having a bad day...I took her there (sans the scotch)! Excellent value, even if you didnt split the entrees.

A great little irish pub/restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/05
When you get tired of the hotel food venture out to murphy's for uptown fun and o'toole's next door for a little more casual. (shoes v. slippahs here in Hawaii) Aloha!

I was stationed in Hawaii on military duty for a year and after 2 weeks I was longing for a "real" bar, one where you could get drinks without a little paper umbrella. Then I found Murphy's. Very friendly staff, good atmosphere, great selection of beers, friendly crowd, good honest food. The food is not fancy but it is good and reasonably priced. I especially enjoyed the rib-eye steak which they make in several different styles (check the specials) or the pork chops with peppers.

Irish Pride
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/05
Being a fellow Irish American, I love what Mr. Murphy has done with this place. It's got amazing food, (especially the Geallic Steak and Lambchops) and the best Irish Beer on tap. The bartender is awesome,(Wayne), and the environment is fun. Definately the best Irish pub in the Pacific ring!
