Many people consider this award-winning seafood restaurant to be among the top 10 dining establishments in Hawai'i. Named after a romantic 18th-century sea captain who was married to Hawaii's last princess, this renowned restaurant serves delectable seafood in a dramatic, elegant setting. Favorite shellfish specialties include the Maine lobster and the Tiger Prawns. A half-dozen varieties of fresh local fish are available every day. The wine list is second to none in Honolulu. A good bottle of wine starts at $35. On Friday nights, sophisticated scenesters might want to check out the brand new after-hours club (ages 23+).
Horrible food and very poor service. John Dominos in Hawaii since 1979 has clearly passed its prime becoming a shell of it's former self with old decor and a generally dirty appearance, The bathrooms in particular and entrance that passes over the salt water aquarium are dingy and dirty. The owners of John Dominos are running it as if on it's last legs with unprofessional and outright bad service and the food is really disappointing while still so very expensive. I had the house special which included a cheap cut of what they claimed was a filet that had no flavor and Mahi Mahi tasted like rubber. The fish had obviously been frozen and the most disgusting Tempura shrimp I ever tasted all for $45. The John Dominos Salad came with 2 tomatoes, a slice of avocado and 2 pieces of old Romaine lettuce drenched an unsavory dressing for $9. The view is still great overlooking Wakiki beach but we had to wait 15 for a waiter to show and he smelled. Cold Seafood from the Sea appetizer was not bad but the Oyster were your standard bad fair from Hawaii. The smoked salmon, sashimi, poke, and shrimp were good enough so for $35 this was ok but the entrees were cheap garbage. John Dominos is clearly trying to sell cheap and frozen food off at first class prices and with the bad service they fail miserably. We were very disappointed and will not go back
Auntie Emma was our host and we can't wait to come back!

Auntie Emma had us join her at her table. We were there from Minnesota in February for our 40th anniversary. We enjoyed the fireworks out the window, the view of Waikiki cannot compare. The personal attention and service goes unsurpassed - and the free cookbooks we received are fun to use since getting back home.
We always feel like we are home when we arrive back in Hawaii and can hardly wait to enjoy the experience at John Dominus again very soon.

Our dinner at John Dominus was absolutely fantastic. The best fish dinner I have had. Service is great.
I can't understand some of the negative reviews on this restaurant. Maybe they are sour-grapes of former employees. Our experience was the total opposite indicated by the negative reviews. We are going there again!
