Mama's Fish House
Mama's Fish House is actually a converted beach house in a coconut grove on a secluded white sand beach. Inside, hinged windows open to let in the trade winds and Polynesian artifacts and original oil paintings decorate tropical hardwood walls. The rooms are filled with spectacular flower arrangements and tapa print cloths cover the tables. Outdoor dining is equally exciting, and everyone enjoys watching the windsurfers performing offshore.
Mama's Fish House is an excellent restaurant! It's very romantic in the early evening and since it's right on the beach, you can walk on the sand, look out into the ocean, or take pictures while waiting for your table. The ambience is almost as amazing as the food. Even the staff cater to your every wish and are very knowledgable about what they're serving. Silly as we are, we even took pictures of the food because the presentation was so great....it was ALMOST too pretty to eat! Now whenever we look at the photos, we just droooooool!!
Yep. It's pricy.
However, the whole package - views, ambiance, crisp service and delicious food are all part of the mystique.
Having dined here a few times, we order the fresh fish catches, and the kalua pork dishes. The menu is mostly fresh fish cooked with island flair. Several orders of fish have always been tasty and moist. Plan on lunch to enjoy the view. It's located in a wind-protected cove so you enjoy the beach before or after your meal.
On our drive back from Hana we thought we would give this place a try. We didn't have reservations, but only waited about 10 minutes. We asked for a table not so breezy and we were told that the non-breezy tables were for those with reservations only. We were agast! Especially since one drink cost $10 minimum, the same type of drink you can get anywhere. This place was way overpriced and I wasn't much impressed with the food. When we told our server we were only having appetizers, she wasn't too happy. For 4 drinks and 3 appetizers, the bill was $94. Good luck...Bring lots of money. The view of the ocean is spectacular though!
This was a nice place to eat. I thought it rivaled many of the fish houses in So. Cal.
The location was perfect. Easy to get to, from anywhere on the Island. It was a great break from our long drive back from Hana. Didn
Nicest dining experience I can remember.
From the momoent the carhop got the car till we left. Wonderful, The veiw is perfect Hawaai.
There are lots of nice touched from the Esher sidewalk to the outrigger on the beach.
The staff was attentive, there when you needed them but not intrusive.
A random waitress picked some flowers and offered one to each of our ladies to put in there hair. Just because...
After experiencing Mama's the first time two years ago, we now plan our trips to Hawai'i to include it each time we go. We are staying in Kauai again this year, but will travel to Maui for a day to whale-watch and eat at Mama's. The food, ambience, service are all incredible, and well worth the trip.
I'm sorry people but Mama's is so overpriced its embarrasing. Yes good food, great location, but not any better than other places on the island for much less money.
Unless you are used to paying 45.00 for a piece of fish, nothing else...add app. salad, veggie and you are seriuosly talking 100.00 per. person, w/o drinks
Now if you are bucks up and are wasteful or need to impress someone with your money....go there and throw it away.......
