Cafe Des Amis, Paia

I'm not a big fan of crepes until I discovered this restaurant. It's unique and delicious!! The menu is creative and you'll want to try everything! I went back many times as I could while I was there, I was HOOKED!! :)

Over the past 2 years we have tried to eat there 3 times. Their tables have always been full, which is understandable since they are a small cafe and the food is good and they live up to their name by encouraging customers to linger. We have no problem with that. We got to try their food once because the first time we opted to get takeout, but the only place we found to eat it nearby was pretty filthy. After that we tried 2 more times, a year apart, to eat in. Both times, while we were scoping out the table situation from the takeout counter, we were very rudely told to go wait on the sidewalk because we were in the way (the takeout counter, the first place you can engage someone who works there, is in the back of the shop). Both times we were irritated enough by the unfriendly treatment that we just went elsewhere. We obviously violated the cafe's waiting etiquette, but shouldn't the corrections be kindlier at Cafe de Amis.

Where else on Maui can you get a meal for two with a bottle of wine for less than $40. Try the Shrimp curry, and don't forget a chocolate crepe for dessert. The atmosphere is Paia funky, and the food is unpretentious, but everyone seems happy to be here including the employees. Sit down next to someone you don't know, watch the geckos on the wall, and share a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere.
