Waimea Brewing Company

Description

Perched on the Western shore of Kaua'i is 'the Westernmost brewpub' in the country. It serves a variety of handcrafted beers, among them Pakala Porter and the signature brew, Wai'ale'ale Ale. The menu features an impressive array of Hawaiian bar food, which is like American bar food with an Asian twist. Pupus (appetizers) include Ale-Steamed Shrimp, nachos and the ubiquitous Ahi Poke (raw Ahi in shoyu). Sandwiches, salads, pastas and filling meat entrees are also served. Wednesdays through Saturdays the pub is alive with live music.

Stay Away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/29/07
I have been to this place 3 times in the past 5 years. I am a huge fan of brew pubs and can appreciate a good beer. Unfortunately this place doesn’t have any. In fact they are out of most beers that are listed on the menu. Same goes for the food menu. Service is usually bad and the wait staff could care less about anything. It feels like the employees are being forced to work and are pretty miserable. My last visit here resulted in me leaving because they were out of everything I wanted to order. Out of 9 beers they had only 2 on tap. I ordered a few apps and they are out of all of them. Do yourself a favorer and go to Big Save and cook your own food. It will be a better experience.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
By FF King, 2/26/07
Reading the positives reviews leads me to believe this place may be hit or miss. We chose this place because we like microbrews and have visited many on the mainland (US). I arrived with a party of four at about 3PM in the afternoon. It was not busy, yet it took at least 15 minutes to be seated. We chose to sit outside because of nice weather. Big mistake. was not a comfortable environment. Chickens running rampant on the patio where you eat. We were seated next to a table where they would pile up the dirty dishes, this attracted flies which were constantly buzzing our table. Quite contrast to other restaurants on the island where we chose to sit outside. They brought out water and 2 out of 4 glasses were dirty. My friend said they just reused the dirty glasses. But I did not see this and cannot confirm. We opted to leave at this point. Maybe we should have chose to sit inside. There attitude reflected a place that was going out of business soon. They just didn't seem to care or have any pride in the service. In a nutshell, try this place at your own risk...indoors. Nice setting, but horrible service.

Awesome Nachos
We stopped here after our trek through Waimea Canyon. We were ready for a relaxing enjoying time of beer and appetizers and that's what we got. The nachos was enough to fill up 2 hungry adults. I wish I would have taken a tour aound back, it looked beautiful from the view from the restroom area. We had our 9 year old daughter with us and she had something to eat (can't remember) but she was satisfied.

You gotta try it
By anthony, 8/14/05
The kalua pork nachos are enough for the table, and they're awesome. If your idea of good beer is natural light (Dad), then stay away, for real beer conniseurs, it's awesome here, and pretty decently priced, with happy hour too. Don't forget to ask for the kamaina discount.

We don't go there for the service
By Olivia, 8/2/05
If you want local food this is your place. Their Kalua pork sandwich is really tasty and not overdone. They also have a bar that features a few local beers that aren't too bad. To get more of an ambiance, I recommend outdoor seating. The service isn't that great but that is kinda the status quo for most places in the area.

the best in Waimea, but...
By Shinimo, 7/3/05
We stayed at Waimea Plantation Cottage and ate dinner here in the end of May 2005. When we went to the restaurant on early Sunday evening, only one waitress was working for a few groups of customers in table area. The waitress was nice, but her service was slow since she took care of many customers by herself. We ordered Mahi Mahi, Ono, and a local beer. The food was good including the beer, but it was a little over-priced. However, we did not have any other choice because there was no good restaurant in the city of Waimea.

Horrendous service - not bad food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/26/05
We went here twice (were staying about 5 minutes away and there aren't many restaurants in the area) - even the locals joke about the terrible service so don't go unless you have a couple of hours to kill. By 6:30 Sunday night they were out of all steaks and most specials (but the waiters didn't know what was available until they put the orders in) - that night our waitress took half off our entire bill since it took 3 tries to order something that they actually had. Took about 15 minutes for them to find more than one menu on a slow night. It's even hard to get a beer (not good at a brewpub) - good luck trying to get someone to take your order - we resorted to getting up from the table and catching a waiter near the bar. When you do get your food it's pretty good. The beer isn't great but it's not too bad (although they usually don't have more than 3 or 4 choices available from a list of 8 or 9 beers). Atmosphere is nice at the outdoor tables - nice plantings and Tiki torches at night. Very casual atmpsphere and apparel. Dinner for 4 with a couple of drinks (no dessert) runs about $100+, lunch about $65-75
