Duke's Canoe Club Barefoot Bar

Description

Experience a little piece of "Old Hawai'i." This Lihue restaurant is located inside the Kauai Marriott Resort and offers the best of Pacific Rim cuisine, along with outstanding ambiance and beautiful views. The restaurant is comprised of two floors and has an enchantingly tropical ambiance, complete with a small indoor waterfall. A canopy of lush foliage adds to the effect, and even the indoor dining area gives the impression of being open air. Take your time having a drink in the casual bar area or looking over the menu. The house specialty is fresh local fish, prepared any way you like.

-Great atmosphere -Right on the beach -Happy hour specials were pretty good, not a lot of happy hours on Kauai -Delicious food -More casual downstairs and finer dining upstairs

Service was great, food was very good. The steaks are tasty, but the prime rib was mediocre at best. Meal comes with a Salad bar which was a very pleasant surprise. For steaks, also look for Wranglers in Waimea. It doesn't show up in GPS or Yahoo, but they have great steaks.

Don't know what planet last Yahoo contributor of 4/28/2008 came from, but the restaurant, food, and dinner setting was excellent. Please don't visit this restuarant if you're only interested in bargain prices, because this restaurant is only for those willing to enjoy Kauai and dinner within a great sunset setting.

The food was bland and awful tasting. Horrible choice for eats not so bad for just drinks. The best thing was the salad bar which is supposedly the best one on the island. Salad bar was not impressive based on it supposedly being the best one and expensive ~$13. It was a 6+ buck up charge to get a plate and all plates came with the salad bar so we thought that was a better value. After getting the plates we should have saved our $12+ bucks and just got the salad bar.

All Gimmick - bland food / great ambiance
By Paul, 11/29/07
A neat setting but that's all. The Pina Colada tasted like they added sugar and forgot the rum. As for the food, it looked good but that is where it ended. The fish and chips had zero flavor - great potential but that's it - add some seasoning. Also, the teriyaki chicken was overcooked and served on a stale bun. Perhaps a good place to have a beer and watch the water but we didn't see what all the fuss is about.

Great location, bad food
By Nate Gleason, 5/21/07
Duke's has an excellent location right on the beach, and the restaurant itself is very impressive. There were live musicians performing and the staff was reasonable prompt and pleasant. The food was some of the worst I have had at a restaurant, though. Perhaps I made a mistake by dining downstairs, but the menu was quite limited and though we tried some of the waitress's recommendations, the food was bland and boring. I think I'd rather go get take out than go back, which is unfortunate because it looks like such a nice place.

Tasty Food, Reservations Recommended
By Olivia, 10/10/06
My husband and I have been to Duke's several times and the food has consistently been tasty and well-prepared. The expansive salad bar could be a meal in itself! I've never had to send anything back but sometimes the service can be a bit slow during busy times. Even with reservations we had to wait a few extra minutes for the hostess to find us a table. If you go for dinner, definitely make reservations.

Duke's Canoe-Shaka!
By Fabler, 8/24/06
My daughters, Joy and Kristina and I just loved the food, ambiance and the service was awesome! The food was deliciously fabulous as always and the Tropical Itch was itchingly tasty, too. My daughters, Kristina and Joy had a Mai Tai and a Volcano and their drinks were a sumptuous, delectable treat all by itself. Not failing to mention, I found myself picking off Joy and Kristina's plates. Their lunch plate look too delicious tempting me to pick off my daughters' plates . . . . Yum! Dukes is located right on the beach harbor, so if you want a drink after a swim, you can sashay right up to the bar in your bathing suit.

Best on the island
By Mike, 7/6/06
Everything was great here and the value for the money was great. It was pricey but the food was actually good and filled us. it was 80 to 90 bucks for 2 people for dinner. but comparing it to other places on the island this was by far the best value.

Overrated
By Ronald, 5/28/06
We liked the location, and the people were friendly; however, the food wasn't fresh and very mediocre. Salad bar was old, and steak wasn't cooked to request. Too many good restaurants within a few miles to go back to Dukes.
