Great little place across the street from the beach. Drinks were fair, not the best even though they claim to have the worlds best Mai Tai, the fries were awesome though. All in all since they are the only place to go and grab a bite right on the beach I would go back.
Ok, i 've lived in the windward side for over 12 years and we've loved going to Buzz's in Kailua with family and friends; however, on Mother's Day this year '08, it was horrible. First, there was this guy at the salad bar who kept his head and hands through the curtain at the salad bar, unsure what he was doing as all the bowls were filled with stuff. The salad was the only best food that night. The hot bread ovens near the salad bar are now gone. Bread is served to the table, it was mediocre. Second, the waitress forgot my wine as previously ordered. Third, when the food came, the grill opakapaka was NOT grilled- very dry, I wonder if it could be pan fried, the teriyaki chicken was dry dry dry like leather, no teriyaki taste either, I had to add salt. I wonder if it got freezer burn. The crab legs were good except no tray for the shells so I had to lay it all on the table. Fourth, the restaurant was already noisy but this lady hostess came by to tell us SHE'LL need to shut our window because the toddler at our table was singing loudly to himself, I did not see anyone complaining nearby before she approached. It was noisy everywhere and everyone was talking loudly at all the tables. Besides, he was taken outside when he got too loud. The hostess did not come back so we tried to close the window ourselves but it was stuck. She later returned and we told her it would not budge so she leaned over and closed it. Funny, there was another open window right next to us and I'm sure the noise from the inside and outside goes right through. Fifth, as if the dinner wasn't bad enough on Mother's Day, dessert was ordered to see if it can enlighten the terrible meal. The vanilla icecream with coconut looked good on the table but all the utensils were GONE, the staff looked too busy rushing here and there, couldn't flag one down fast enough, sooo my husband had to grab one from the counter (I hope it was clean). Ah, finally, the bill came it's black folder sans a pen. This place only accepts cash or check, so why the lack of pens? I was again flagging someone down for a pen but they all were too busy, so I got up to the bar to get it myself!!! Could not leave this place any faster!!! It was NOT a busy night, only 2 small groups sitting outside with drinks waiting for a table, I've seen much more the years before. What a huge disappointment. We could have mentioned how bad it was but unsure how much longer we had to wait for new food with the way things were going. Can't believe they were tipped (habit, I guess). I no longer recommend this place to any of my local friends or family coming to town. Overall, bad service and bad food! Only the company at the table was delightful, everything else was crappy.
Buzz's better improve their cooking and hostess/server skills, being the only local steak & seafood restaurant in Kailua, I'm willing to give Buzz's another try but certainly NOT for a long time.
Buzz's has pretty good food. The steak I ordered was just about perfect. They are a little odd about sitting you down at a table unless your whole party is there, but I suppose they do have their reasons..and they only take cash. I would go back again, though I wish the salad bar had more choices and more centrally located instead of hidden away in a corner.
I SERVED IN THE NAVY DURING THE 70's AND LIVED IN KAILUA. WE LOVED TO EAT AT BUZZ'S. ANY TIME WE HAD COMPANY FROM THE MAINLAND WE ATE AT BUZZ's. IT WAS GREAT THEN AND REMAINS GREAT TO THIS DAY EVEN THOUGH THE MENU HAS CHANGED ALITTLE. THE ATMOSPHERE IS FANTASTIC AND THE PEOPLE FRIENDLY. CAN YOU HAVE A BAD EXPERIENCE. I SUPPOSE. WE HAVE EATEN THERE MANY TIMES AND WHEN WE RETURNED AFTER 30 YEARS AWAY WE FOUND IT TO BE AS ENCHANTING AS EVER. IT'S IS AS BUSY TODAY AS IT WAS THEN. IT CAN BE A LITTLE HARD TO FIND BUT EVERYONE KNOWS WHERE IT'S AT SO JUST ASK.
