We found Java Jazz on our second day in Maui, and ended up eating there almost every day. The food was great and the prices very reasonable. I highly recommend the Java Jazztini and the waffles with raspberry sauce. It's a small space, great for hanging out and listening to music. The decor is eclectic, you have to visit to see the hanging Barbies and presidents as clowns. The music may be load for some, but we found it very enjoyable and a nice part of the atmosphere.
Inept staff handoff as day person seated us and then no one followed up till female barkeep noted we had no drinks. About 5-10 minutes at most.
She served us and one of us asked for the music to be turned down about ten decibels. She informed us she can't touch the equipment - people get fired for doing that. She was informed we would not be back in the future and to tell the owner. One party member wanted to go turn off the power strip to the large mixing board located at the back of the small area. Eclectic mix of tunes, but we could not hear each other over the music when it suddenly got loud.
Food came promptly. Was ok. We were going to move outside but everything would have been shifted to take out containers. No need to generate more trash on this island.
Massive attack of flies while we ate. One of us was always waving the flies off our fingers, food and area.
Charged us $2 for a large coffee. $2.50 for ice-filled ice tea. No refill offered. We were the *only* clients at 230pm.

The owner of this place is quite probably, insane. Management is vulgar, obscene and demeaning to women. Supposed owner was observed on two seperate nights yelling obscenities at the top of his lungs at female wait staff. Avoid at all costs. Food is very poor quality, bartender (blonde female) the most inept I've ever seen. Place is dirty, dangeroulsy, eardrum damaging loud and to be avoided. Rumor has it this place is going to go out of business soon due the owners rather precipitous slide into mental illness. Sad.
