we loved dining in a cozy restaurant and being able to get a piece of mind. we both needed a vacation real bad because we were working so many hours it was driving us crazy.my dislike at first was the weather but after two days i got used to it. i really enjoyed being out on a island the view was excellent from the hotel.the room was nice and cozy. and room service was the best.
My now-wife and I got engaged in the sand at the Mauna Lani resort (how cliched?) so my review will inevitably be a biased one.
Nonetheless, we had a superb several days at this resort during July 2003.
The service was excellent, all around. As with many upscale Hawaiian hotels, we were greeted, offered fresh fruit juices, and quickly checked-in. As the hotel was not at capacity, we were offered an complimentary upgrade with no prodding on our part.
Our room was ocean-facing, with a great balcony, and big sliding doors to let in the breezes at any hour.
The room was nicer than we expected -- decorated with sophisticated touches and comfortable bed linens.
The beach in directly in front of the hotel property and is scattered with comfortable lounge chairs that were first-come-first-served when we were there. The water was alive with sea turtles (honu) during our visit.
The only disappointing thing we discovered at the Mauna Lani was the limited and early-closing restaurant/bar selection.
In all, though, this resort will be fondly remembered for its excellent service, comfortable rooms, and sandy beachfront.
