Rusty Harpoon, Lahaina

Service is extremely slow, the food is fair at best, not the freshest, ice tea stale and watered down. This place stays open only because Leilani's and the Hula Grill always have such a long wait.The view is nice, but it won't take away that gnawing, wretching pain in the gut you'll get after eating here. There's a reason there's always a table available at the Rusty Crapoon. Trust me, it's worth the wait for the other two places. If you can't wait, go to the McDonalds on the lower level.

We stopped in at The Rusty Harpoon for lunch during our vacation to Maui. We happened to come in during the end of the Patriots vs. Chargers playoff game. My fiancee was excited since he LOVES football but I was not. The restaurant was very loud and many guests were no longer eating but were instead hanging around to watch the end of the game. For those who like football I am sure they would understand that the guests would want to hang around...unfortunately the wait staff seemed more interested in watching the game then in serving the customers. The restaurant was so packed I had trouble getting to the restroom. The good news is that if you don't like sports there is a lovely view of the ocean at the back of the restaurant which is in the open air but is covered. The food was okay but not really that special and many of the meny items seemed over priced. If you like alcohol many drinks are only $3.50 during Happy Hour. I would recommened this place for sports lovers who aren't so much concerned with the quaility of food or service.

Nice atmoshpere

We arrived with 8-10 other tables at the start of the NFL playoff games. Unfortunately, it took 20 minutes to have a waitress stop by for our order. We opted to try our luck elsewhere at the half. We tried from the 2 minute warning until the end of the half to get our check. We walked 100 yards to Leilani's and enjoyed great service and a great meal.

The staff from the hostess to the manager are more like a McD staff than a good restaraunt. They didn't know the hours the place was to open when we called for breakfast and didn't know the kinds offered which took 5 minutes to check before getting an answer - that should have diswayed us but after an overpriced meal with OK service at best I'd visit one of the other places next door which were both pretty good.

The Hula Grill was packed and the wait was over an hour - so we took a chnace and dined at the Rusty Harpoon. We definitely got harpooned. Soggy cold calamari, frozen (fresh island ahi) tuna, warm beer, etc. Just stay away from this place and you will be glad.

This is one of those places that visitors talk about for years to come. The food here is some of the best you'll find in the Islands and without a doubt, the best on Kaanapali Beach. Anything you try off this menu will leave your mouth watering for more. When I say this place is on the beach, I mean it is ON the Beach. Its as close as you can get without getting wet. I have had the pleasure of eating at the Rusty Harpoon many times since it opened and I have always recieved great service and Great Food. The staff is excellent and the bartenders always have a way of making you smile. Dont miss this place or you'll never forgive yourself.
