Though it's legendary enough to draw customers from across the island, this Lahaina favorite has finally followed everyone else's lead and set up a second location on the South Side. Situated in the posh new Shops at Wailea, it's an expansive space overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean. The menu changes daily, according to what's in season. Servers glibly rattle off the choices, offer suggestions, and customize orders to fit everyone's tastes. A few items that you'll usually be able to order are the Shrimp Longhi and the delectable Maine lobster.
Unfortunately this place is now more of a seafood restaurant than Italian (you need to ask for the pasta menu separately), and although they do seafood well you can get comparable for less. There are not many Italian places on Maui, so if that's what you're craving they do have some of the better pasta dishes. They're heavy on the cheese in general (even the table bread is covered in cheese) and have a decent wine list. The restaurant is large and the tables are well-spaced, though the outdoor balcony overlooks the parking lot (not the ocean).
I was very disappointed with the taste and appearance of the food.
When something is very expensive, I expected a good taste and excellent presentation.
Fish and shrimps over cooked and pasta ( fettucini alfredo) just pasta covered in a white sauce like those that you buy in a box ready to warm up in a microwave.
You can find better restaurant for the same price or less in Maui
Four of us went to Longhi on a Saturday night at 7pm. It was not very crowded. Another table of four was seated next to us 10 minutes after we were seated. We waited. A drink server came and took the drink order of the table that came later, then came to take our order. She didn't know anything about the wine. The waiter wasn't any more knowlegeable. Overall the service was terrible and we were not impressed with the food for the price. My husband got the ribeye, which was a very large good grade piece of meat. But they drowned it in the balsamic sauce, I mean drowned it. There are so many more places to go and spend good money then here. They need to make a lot of changes.
They need a vegan menu and a more knowledgeable hostess. The pasta Arrabiata (vegan according to waiter, but the hostess didn t know that) was too spicy--could have used less red pepper or added some tofu or included a side veggie. The focaccia bread was good (vegan according to waiter, but the hostess didn t know that.). The hostess also put the menus on top of the silverware (déclassé.).
An Italian restaurant without a pasta menu? Actually, they have it but you have to request it especially. A mystery to me, but a good theory is that they prefer you to choose from more expnsive sections of the menu.
they have the best outdoor seating and ambiance, included w/ excellent service...they also have the best macadamia nut pancakes...hmm delicious! don't forget to try the lobster and fill it w/ asparagus w/ a side of hollandaise sauce (bread choice: sourdough baguette). the french toast is also divine!
