22 North Restaurant and Bar, Lihue

Six of us just had dinner at Gaylord s and were excited to return there after having been fans of the restaurant for many years before it became 22 North. We ordered drinks. Our straight up martinis were in the bottom part of the glass and tasted like water. During the first drink, we ordered and two of us couples asked if we could split the Caesar salad, which the waiter said was fine. It took a while to get his attention after that to order a second drink. Before the drink came, here came the salads and they weren t split in the kitchen as it common in most restaurants, but we had to cut up the salad and split it ourselves. Then came the drinks. Entrees came. Two had the rib eye and neither could even cut them because there was so much grissle. One had the pork and she was smart enough to complain and the manager or whomever came and asked if he could get her something else. She said she was happy with the greens and the beans on the plate which were excellent. She tried to chew the pork and she ended up politely putting what she couldn t chew on her butter dish.I was smart as a friend had told me that the seared ahi was great and it was. Two others had the mahi, which they said was good. The waiter was poor at best. The two who had the rib eyes were being polite and in hindsight said they wished they had sent them back. Fortunately because we were with great friends and had fun with the, the evening was good in that respect. We will not return to which used to be a favorite and wonderful place nor we will recommend it to anyone.

We have been going to Gaylord's for over 20 years and nothing mentioned above has changed. Would like to give a special thanks to our waiter (AG) and his helper (Robert) they were the best...very gracious, polite, on top of everything. Just wanted us to be pleased and happy....and we all were. Our table location was what I ordered on the viranda, the weather was great also....Just another wonderful day in paradise. Sorry to hear about the name change, since it is historical as names go, but we hope that everything else will remain the same or even get alittle better. Mahalo

Not much to complain about at Gaylord's. The setting was comfortable and the service attentive and friendly. Our group ordered a variety of dishes and everyone found the fish and ribs, etc., to be nicely prepared and tasty. I don't remember what I ordered for dessert, but it left a good impression. Gaylord's is not a terribly creative place, but serves a very satisfying meal.

We have come to Kauai every year for the past 11 years. We always have dinner here at least one night. The food has always been wonderful and so have the waiters. It is like dinning in someones beautiful back yard. We feel it is one of the best restaurants in Kauai. We will be back this Oct.

The Sunday Brunch is an excellent value. It contains standard brunch fare and some local specialties, like banana pancakes and coconut muffins. The outdoor seating in the restored plantation house provides a wonderful atmosphere for dining.

It's everything we like in a restaurant, whether it's lunch or dinner. Because it is an old plantation, it has the ambiance of what is expected when visiting Hawaii; the staff is well trained and there are excellent chefs preparing the food. We are frequent visitors to Kauai and it is one of our favorite restaurants.

We have mixed emotions about Gaylords. We only had breakfast there, so we can't really say much about the food. The people were very friendly, and the setting was beautiful and relaxing. We will definitely return for dinner next visit.

Great atmosphere....excellent food....beautiful scenery.....The PERFECT ROMANTIC SETTING...

Romantic, breathe-taking and beautiful! It made us fall in love all over again. After a last minute trip my husband and I decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon we never had after 13 wonderfull years (not an anniversary, but just beacause). We had the honeymoon table, we have a new song to add to our list (live music and they sing you a song depending on your situation, wedding anniversarry or something as wacked out as our situation) Yet he found the perfect song. the host offered to take a picture in front of the plantation with the lanterns on and it came out beautifull. Breakfast is very economical considering that it is all you can eat. Dinner can be a bit pricey, but the meal mmmmmmmm................ The best I ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant. They have music, carriage rides, shops, history and if you have a bit of patience a wonderfull luau in the evening. If you are lucky enough to get rain while eating it only makes it that much more romantic. Hope to come back soon!!!!!!!!

We visit Kauai every year for two or three weeks and always make it a tradition to have lunch or dinner at Gaylords at least twice. The ambience has a truly Hawaiian feel that is so relaxing. Tables are not too close together, the staff is very attentive and even if there is a shower it just gives more of a tropical feeling. We have our favorites but like to try the specials also. Be sure to try the tropical iced tea. The setting makes it so outstanding you have to see for yourself. You will not be sorry!
