Tahiti Nui, Hanalei

I went on a Saturday night and there was live music and a goodbye party for the owner's son. I found them to be warm, welcoming and I only drank diet coke! It does seem to be locals but as an obvious tourist, I felt more than at home. Very fun, warm atmosphere.

awesome spot, most happening bar on the north shore. Live local music mostly reggae. kind of a local style dive bar. Got to check it out.

This is the worst and most dangerous place to visit in Kauai. You are taking your life into your hands if you dare to go there. The bouncer is an ugly thug who will beat you to a pulp or have his minions do it if you look at him wrong. The food is terrible, the service is worse and the atmosphere is tacky. The owner condones and encourages the bouncer to beat non-locals. This is a very dangerous place. Do not go there if you value your life.

We toured Hawaii on our fifth wedding anniversary in 1977. Our favorite island of the four majors was Kauai - HANDS DOWN. There were many highlights of Kauai. One of which was the luau that we went to at Tahiti Nui in Hanalei. The entertainment was great, the food was great, the people were great. I recall the entire event as very memorable. We spent about five days on Kauai staying at the Coco Palms and dining at various locations on the island. The food was great everywhere, but Tahiti Nui stood out as the greatest overall experience. We have been back two other times - 1982 and 1990 and it has been consistently great.

This is a great bar. Total local bar that is basically a tiki hut with drunk people in it. The owner is usually serving up the drinks and enjoying the night right along with everyone. If you get a chance to go when there is live music, you are in for a treat.

It's been a few years...but it was with good friends and the drink was called "the good, the bad, and the ugly"! First of all, start with polynesian kitzch and a bartender that aims to please, mix in good conversation, good friends and a good measure of rum and you have a recipe for a great afternoon. The drink starts with three kinds of rum and a 1/3 mixer of your choice (the good), it moves on to three kinds of rum and a splash (the bad) and graduates to just three kinds of rum (the ugly). Needless to say, there was lots of fun that day. The rum as I recall was light, medium and dark...you pick the brand since I can't remember that. If we had food, it was good because it was inhaled as soon as it came. I have pictures of this event and we didn't end up on the floor! It made for a memorable trip to Kauai and I would certainly recommend the place to anyone with a spirit of adventure. Oh yeah...one last thing....there was great picture of an island girl over the bar.......

I've lived here 12 years. Tahiti Nui has been run and frequented by heavy drinking crowd for decades. Thus, the food is not fine dining. If you like to drink, you'll be at right at home.
