Coming around....
By former Modocer, 4/18/11
I lived in Cal Pines while in high school. Still call the area home and look forward to my visitis. People are the down-to-earth people you love to be around during the holidays. Cal Pines Lodge Restaurant did go through a downturn in quality (but don't most restaurants?) When I went in May I was pleasantly surprised that the food was great. I am still hoping someone can bring more life back to the place. If the claim of annual HOA dues being over $1.5MM is true, maybe they could better use that for refurb, lake stocking/water level filling, and some GOOD marketing. Economy in the area could use it.

Priced to high for what you get.
By RAD..., 1/31/07
Too Rustic. Teeny bathroom. Very limited TV. NO locals! They charge $25.00 if you have a pet, per night(outrageous fee, Best Western doesn't even charge that much). The lodge does NOT serve dinners Sunday thru Wed. You have to drive to Alturas. You might as well stay in Alturas for the money. They charge enough for continental breakfast but do not offer them. And No staff even shows up in the office til late in the morning. So No coffee either, you have to drive to Alturas. So I recommend you stay in Alturas, It will save you gas money.

We were just there a couple weekends ago and loved it. We met the chef on the way in and he was very friendly as was all the staff. I had an excellent prime rib and my fiance had cordon bleu and we both totally loved it. We had to take some home because there was more than we could eat. We didn't have room for desert, but the chef caught us going out the door and gave us a couple of macaroons hot out of the oven to take home. The deer in the grass by the parking lot were also beautiful to look at. We will definately be going back again and again.

I used to go to the recreation room up there at the Cal pines Ca Alturas lodge to hang out when i was just 14 to 16 ok no one i know that dont work there hangs out there when there not working. every thing below is VERRY true and Correct. but i know people in L.A and out of towner's intrested in this area really should Come back and take over that lodge make this place better the people running that lodge/bored bring people up here on a free flight and all the pictures on the Cal pines web site with ericka strada on it are pictures 11 miles from the lodge way up in hill unit 5. this is 21 miles from the nearest gas staion in alturas One way that is where the pictures are taken , what they dont show when intill u get here is the land scape around in a 5 mile radius of the lodge its not pine trees its high desert people come up here and get confused be cause that website leads them on and if the person that recives a free flight up here dosent want to by property the flight home or ride home is comeing out of there pocket they get you up here for free then black male u or try to get you into buying property. if you come up here theres all kinds of property's that is not owned by the peoperty association. please dont Let them crooks scare you guys away. this is a good place to raise Kids no gangs no drugs only alchol sold at the store out in cal pines its nice n quiet i like it be cause theres no cops hardly no bullshit I dont lock my front door most the time the thanks for reading.

Yes it is a dump
By Minerii, 3/7/08
It is a real shame that this could be a premier place but the board even when they hire an expert micromanages. They get 1.5 million a year from the property owners and no one knows where the money goes. They can't keep help if you are a property owner you should get ahold of the rest of the property owners and get rid of the current board and make this place hop.

What a Dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/7/06
This lodge use to be a good place to go and let it all go. I use to drive up from L.A. and enjoy myself. The office people (Sharon and Elaine) where very nice and friendly full of info on Alturas and places around it. The food was good. The rooms needed lots of help (new beds, more t.v. and new decore). I was just there a couple of weeks ago and the office help WHAT A JOKE, the food needed help and but some of the rooms have been worked on. I do belive that this was my last trip to California Pines Lodge. I can think of better places to spend my money in and on.
