Old Range Steakhouse
Enjoy a beautiful lake view from every table. Try the Garlic steak, Filet Mignon, King Crab Legs, Giant Fresh Iowa pork chops or the house specialty, old-fashioned salt-roasted prime rib. Old Range also offers the meat-and-potatoes crowd huge steaks featuring Midwestern, heavy-aged corn-fed beef. Now that's good eatin'! Open daily from 5 p.m.
Absolutely my favorite restaurant at the lake, maybe my favorite steak anywhere. I love the place, and adore the owner (George). George started carrying my favorite gin after I requested it. He's had it on hand ever since.
Top quality food and service. The drinks are HUGE. Beware. :-)
I didn't want to leave the last review as the first that peopoe see. We live in Truckee and have gone there for years. We find the service excelent and the food fabulous always. Their steaks are wonderful and the servings large. I think the person from the last review just had an extremely rare experience. The owner is always there and on top of things. Go and enjoy and wonderful evening...we're going Friday!
It was not good. We ordered prime rib when we ate there. The quality of the meat was not good. It was way too expensive for the quality of meat. The salad was watery. The bread was not good. The service was awful. Our drinks were not kept full. The waitress was hard to find when you needed her. It was an all around bad dinner. And it cost too much. I understand it is steak and good steak should cost a lot but it was not good.
Wow, what a neat little hide away. We looked all over Lake Tahoe to find crab legs. We were reccomended this place by the locals. (always a good bet when you are from out of town) Called and made reservations for four. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. Two of us had the garlic infused steak, highly reccommended. The other two decided to have the steak and crab. The wait staff asked if we wanted two legs or four....what of course the larger portion. Word to the wise. These are the largest most succlent crab legs seen in quite some time, order the smaller portion unless you want crab omelets in the morning. They were great also.
One of the greatest wine selections we had seen in a long time. The four of us had a dinner which none of us could finish. With a bottle of house wine for $130. Unheard of...especially in Tahoe. Have paid that exact same rate in the local pizza place, for four people.
Everyone we ran into there was very friendly and especially helpful. Can't reccomend a better place to have a nice dinner.
Great food but the owner is extremely discriminatory towards children. If you call for a reservation and have kids DO NOT tell him that you have kids he will not make the reservation, just show up and make sure that they behave or he will make you leave! I am not sure if this is legal to not allow children but I suppose they can reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I only gave the restaurant 3 stars because the owner is so awful the food is worth it.
