Spindleshanks American Bistro and Wine Bar represents the best of both old and new Lake Tahoe. Opened in 2000 by partners Steve Marks and Harman Schuchmann, the restaurant has become a Tahoe Vista institution in a short amount of time. By offering regional American cuisine and a variety of wines in a casual atmosphere, the pair created a dining experience that caters to both large families and couples seeking a romantic evening.
This is my favorite restaurant! I highly reccomend the shrimp and lobster bisque for an appetizer, and you should split the Filet and lobster with someone. It's amazing but it is alot of food. The wait is a little long, but the atmosphere is good enough to not care. So if you're planning to eat at seven, make a reservation for six. please go to this restaurant!!!!!!!!!
After writing positively about Spindleshanks several times in the past, I'm disappointed to report that we just had an awful meal there. The filet mignon was burned on the outside and raw in the middle. And the baby back ribs were burned, and dried out. We've put Spindleshanks on a 6 month probation as a result.
We've been to Spindlehsnaks twice, both times we were seated prompley, our server, the same both times, was very sweet, friendly and attentive, as was the busser. We asked to split our an entree, which they were happy to do. There was a large party going on at the same time, a dozen people or so, and it in no way dampened our experience. The food was excellent both times. We definitely plan on making this a regular stop during our ski trips.
We made a reservation for this place a week in advance. A family emergency kept us from even getting up to Tahoe and, my mistake, I didn't call to cancel the reservation while I was in the hospital. The owner, Steve, had the nerve to call me repeatedly left rude, harassing voice messages asking why we didn't show up for our reservation. He threatened to not stop calling me until I returned his call. Needless to say we will never eat there and if I ever see Steve...well, who knows!
