Tried out Moodys to see if it would be acceptable for an upcoming car club luncheon. I ordered the Kobe burger which was very good; my husband ordered the fish & chips with coleslaw. The fish was notably overcooked to a very charred looking dark brown and was also very dry. The coleslaw tasted like cabbage right out of the bag with nothing on it. We are age 50+ and have never sent back food ever but this was virtually inedible. When asked how the food was, my husband quietly told our server about the fish and he immediately offered to bring a new meal. Sadly, the second meal was no better. The really odd thing was although we complained quietly and politely, and we definitely did not make a scene, once we returned the first plate, all service stopped. No more water or soda refills, and we could hear them talking about us in the kitchen. Finally, the server did ask if the second plate was better and when my husband said it was not, he graciously offered to comp both of our meals, which we appreciated. However the whole event was very awkward, had we received better service and left feeling more comfortable we might have considered returning to give them a second chance. Our luncheon will definitely not be held at Moodys. I would suggest that Moodys develop a better customer service policy.
My husband and I have dined at Moody's Bistro in the past and have always enjoyed the food until this past weekend. Our meal was so bad that we vowed to never eat there again. We ordered two appetizers - one was a pasta dish with veal breast and the other was a crispy gnocchi. The veal was so fatty that we couldn't even eat it. The pieces of veal were, in fact, just pieces of what seemed to be uncooked fat! When we complained, our waitress was very condescending and explained that we should have know if would be fatty because it was veal breast is mostly fat.
The gnocchi was bland and the red sauce that accompanied it was completely tasteless. The portions very small and the food was overpriced. For a main course, we both ordered the cod. It was anything but spectacular, but given the choice of venison or rabbit or chicken, we opted for the fish. Again, we received a tiny, overpriced portion that was served in a tasteless broth.
We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and we enjoy dining out. I have never taken the time to write a review before, but honestly, the food at Moody
When we're in Tahoe-Donner or Truckee, we love to eat at Moody's! The food is on the pricey side, but we've never had a bad meal there. Everything is fresh and tasty, and created with a great deal of thought and originality. Service is usually excellent, even when they're busy, and the wine list is extensive, plus there's often a live mellow jazz band playing live in the evenings in the bar. A perfect place to eat after a hard day on the slopes!
