New ownership as of January 2013. What a hell hole again! Back to the drunken bar fights, poor food quality, and a horrible attempt for a night club scene. Keeping the same menu items as the previous management, while compromising food quality, service, and atmosphere does not do any justice to where this restaurant was heading in 2012. What a shame! It won t be long and the doors will be closed. One more restaurant in Yuba City down the drain.
My husband and I went to the Refuge Restaurant for the Easter brunch.
It was very nice. The Service has greatly improved from the last owners and so has the
menu. I like the fact that it has Indian food along with Itialian and american, a good mix.
Its nice to have a local restaurant with class. So that a person can actually dress for dinner. This is something that is missing in our town. Especially when it seems everyone wants every day to be casual friday.
We can't agree with the other reviews. We have gone several times on different nights and the service and food have been bad. Every time we have taken anyone for a special occassion it was embarassing. Everyone we talk to says the same thing. We don't know how they stay open. Another restaurant, Paradiso, owned by the same person, was much better. We are sorry it closed. They even had cooking classes that were a lot of fun and great food. We don't plan on going tto the Refuge again.
Finding restaurants in this area which are decent but NOT asian or fast food is a challenge. The food here was very good and out of the ordinary (vanilla brandy sauce on pepper coated filet mignon) and it was all exquisitely prepared. THe prices were a little high, except for the dessert menu which were very reasonable since they serve two (or more!) Service was prompt and unobtrusive (a big plus when trying to have a nice intimate dinner with a loved one)but the decor baffled me. Diner partitions, tuscany plaster on the walls and semi asian banners coupled with kitchen dining room set seating... weird; nice glass wear and cheap flatware... But the food was excellent and isn't that why one goes OUT to eat?
The service is second to none! Very good food! A classy place to take your friends and family. The manager was very intertaining he even made a special dinner tableside for my grandmother!! Very well done!
Every dining experience I've had here has been very positive. The food is excellent, one of the best in Yuba City, and the place has great ambiance. It's a little pricier here than many of the other local restaurants, but once you taste the food you'll know why. The owner also owns a couple of other local restaurants that each offer the same high quality of food and service as the Refuge. This is one of the best restaurants in town.
In 1949, restaurant owners Jim and Margaret Knudson went to a friend's home for dinner where they ate their first
taco. Jim was so convinced that this tasty product would have a universal appeal that he began to develop ...
