Basque Norte, Chico

If you're looking for the best restaurant in Chico you've found it.

I have eaten at Basque Norte since they started in Paradise. I have never eaten at at a restaurant quite like it in my travels throughout the country. Their Porterhouse is to die for. The fare is simple but flavorful. The owners are some of the greatest people in Chico.

I was so disappointed. Looking at the prices and the nice atmosphere I was expecting an exciting meal but it was really bland for the price. The started us off with a relish plate which was basically some pickled peppers, olives and cauliflower straight out of the jar. Then we had some french bread which was actually one of the best items served. The soup was really boring and the beans had almost no flavor what so ever. The salad was tiny for four people to share. The pasta was something a five year old could make. They did add some herbs to it and I guess some oil but it basically tasted like plain boiled noodles. After all the horribly bland starters our entrees came on tiny dishes. I had the game hen, which was not bad. I also tried all the other dishes my friends ordered. The fish was very dry and too salty and the lamb was decent but really small in its portion. The steak was the best but not as tender as some of the other steakhouses around town. We finished with a desert which was a small scoop of ice cream which was really delicious. Overall I, as well as my three friends were very disappointed that we had spent so much money on such a boring meal but I have to say that the service was wonderful. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

i know everyone raves about this place but i was not really impressed. i am not a tomato soup fan so i didn't like that. they do have a great flavor on there meat but the side for me didn't cut it. i went here with my whole family and they loved it so all i can say is i am strange.
