For over 37 years, this restaurant has been serving fresh, authentic Mexican food. El Novillero features on KCRA's list of A* restaurants and has also been voted the best restaurant serving Mexican food. Traditional tortillas, tacos, burritos, served with chicken, beef, pork and fresh sauces feature on the menu for daily favorites. The special children's menu has made this a family favorite. You can also order meals with a combination of ingredients of your choice. The restaurant offers 127 attended parking spaces with lighting and security cameras.
I found it interesting that the previous review referred specifically to the salsa....we asked about getting different kinds of salsa and they only offer one (and looked at me like I was crazy for requesting another). No choice at all - and the salsa you do get is not very good. I expected the food to be a lot better based on what was written on this site. Instead it was very conventional and for the quality of food/service - very expensive. The atmosphere was tacky, the service was nominal, and the food...well...I almost didn't want to take home the left overs because I knew I probably wouldn't eat them. Not the worst restuarant I've been too but certainly not one I'll ever go to again. Go to Centro Cocina Mexicana or Ernesto's and you can get MUCH better food and service for the same price.
Perhaps it was because we went with such high expectations since everyone raves about this place that it was bound to be disappointing. The food was really just run of the mill, nothing special. My wife is a vegetarian and usually Mexican restaurants are able to provide a wide array of options, but this one had practically nothing but a very bland dish or two. I'm not a vegetarian but found the event he meat items greasy and surprisingly bland. The atmosphere was cool though with wonderfully over-the-top decor. Vallejos and Ernestos are much better choices.
I don't get it. Are you guys who rate this place the best Mexican restaurant in Sac crazy? Yeah the tortillas were yummy, but I've been to way better places with better food. Looks aren't everything. The plates have reasonable prices but simple things like burritos are definitely overpriced. Don't get me wrong, the food is very good, just not the best like these other reviews say so, and I'm not the only person that feels that way. Everybody I ate with there feels the same way.
Its OK, but not what I really want in a Mexican restaurant. First salsa was very mild. Second no tortillas with the meal (who hears of a Mexican restaurant without tortillas). Third no dessert. Service was great however.
We ve been going to this restaurant for years and always enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. However, after going there again for my birthday yesterday, I was not so pleased. We took the remainder of our dinner home and my husband found a long hair in his burrito. He could not finish eating the rest of his meal. I am undecided as to whether or not we will go there again. 1st bad experience in 16 years.
I ate there today for the very first time. Great food... and may sound silly but one of the things I always judge a mexican restuarant on is... Their rice and beans. Most restaurant get so sloppy with these sides but it was as close to homemade as I can remember. The chicken enchiladas were awesome.
Everyone has their own taste... I used to like Plaza Del Sol in Elk Grove but it has been that great lately... definetely my new place to go!
Had my breakfast here last week while on business errands. Actually, a friend of mine from here recommended this place. The Huevos Rancheros has always been a favorite breakfast. Not disappointed because it exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.
This is one of the finest family restaraunts that i've had the pleasure of visiting. There is a lot of history in this building. 35 years and counting. The servers take pride in the restaraunt as much as they take pride in the food. If you're looking for a great atmosphere and food, visit El Novillero!
