We ve been going to this restaurant for years and always enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. However, after going there again for my birthday yesterday, I was not so pleased. We took the remainder of our dinner home and my husband found a long hair in his burrito. He could not finish eating the rest of his meal. I am undecided as to whether or not we will go there again. 1st bad experience in 16 years.

I have been eating at El Novillero since it was a converted hamburger stand over 30 years ago. While it is not a converted hamburger place anymore, the food is always great, service is excellent, and atmosphere is nice. Their dishes are authentic, prepared and presented very well, and taste delicious. The Chili Verde is probably my favorite dish. But, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Taking the family for my and my wife's wedding anniversary and her birthday. There will be 15 of us and I would never take them to just any old place...

I have been there about 20 times usually on special events and this is one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento. The location is a little sketchy, but the food, service and atomosphere is fantatastic and I would definately recommend them to anyone looking to have a great night our with family and friends.

Relatively good food. Could be a little more spicy with more flavor. Salsa is too mild. When restaurant is full, service is poor and mistakes are made in the dishes served.

Its OK, but not what I really want in a Mexican restaurant. First salsa was very mild. Second no tortillas with the meal (who hears of a Mexican restaurant without tortillas). Third no dessert. Service was great however.

This is a good restaurant IF you like Americanized Mexican food. The 'salsa' tastes canned and the beans taste like Rosarita. I was not impressed with the food, even though they are huge portions. Down the street is an unassuming taqueria (La Favorita) that 'nails' the classic tastes of tacos, enchiladas, tortas, etc. Basic fare that tastes amazing!
