Monte Vista Inn, Dutch Flat

my son took us there for fathers day this year, what a great place, good food, excellant staff, very rustic, but very,very nice, we will be going back!!

I have been to the MV probably a hundred times. I once lived in the area and they always treated me like family. When my son was a newborn, the owner and her daughters took turns caring for him in back while my husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner quietly. The food is excellent. I know people who order the spicy blue cheese salad dressing to go. I love the teriyaki prime rib and will always go back there when I'm in the area.

Been going to the MV Inn for years. Think I would be considered a local. Great food, great ambience. But the service. Don't know what the hell is going on there but the wife/owner must be going thru menopause and she's dragging her waitress daughter with her. Can be very condescending and when not, very phony smiley smiley. This is a service type business and you need to be up and pleasant all the time. Granted, if your being mistreated by a customer and can take only so much, fire back. But if you are not, then be genuinely pleasant. It usually will reflect in the tip. I have always tipped generously there and you would think they would remember that. But apparently not. The locals have spent a lot of money in there, you think they would get a little better treatment. I will be limiting my visits there from this time on.

I was very !!! surprised to see ANY negative reviews re: the Monte Vista Inn. I have been going to this restaurant for over 25 years and it MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT. I choose it for all my special occassions and for a treat to take my guests. Their food is always wonderful and the service warm and inviting. I enjoy the cozy fireplace area with the live music on Saturday nights. I choose to call for reservations, but, sometimes, we just take a chance to get in. We might have to wait,but, we just order a drink and enjoy the ambiance. It's so funny...I love their cloth napkins. They are seasonal!!! and they change their twinkle light decorations to match the time of year. I don't know what was going on when the people who had negative reviews visited, but I hope they give the place another try. Call the owners...I know they would be so gracious to talk to you and try to rectify the problem. Cheers =)

great mahi mahi with pleasantly calm service - love the spicy blue cheese dressing. I loved the lady's flag shirt at the table next to us, it reminded me of the harmless camp that my mother liked to dress in and always brought a cheery smile - have fun * and please wait a couple years before the trendy crowd discovers it and turns it into reservations only. I love just being able to drop in for dinner and feel nourished on the way home.

Mountainess Experience. That's the word I would use to describe what eating at the Monte Vista Inn is truly like. It is a spectacular restaurant with seasonal decorations. The food is delicious and ranges anywhere from seasonal venison, and seafood, to burgers and buffalo wings. The atmosphere is lively with music and locals. It has everything from fine wines to fresh homemade pies and desserts. It’s a romantic getaway, while being a family fun event. The locals are great, they have amazing stories. To top it off, they have a petrified wood fire place with plenty of seating. Anyone, who visits would simply call it, “Home”. Sincerely, Jason a town local of Dutch Flat.

We are currently looking for property in the area of Alta and wandered in her for lunch, although they don't serve lunch we ordered from the bar menu and truly enjoyed our time here. The Bartender was a sweetheart and the locals were very friendly. The atmosphere is very cozy and has a great comfy feel. I was not fortunate enough to eat dinner here, but my friend who was taking us through the area had and said it was excellent when she was here and they had the hottest horseradish she had ever had. We asked for some horseradish to try it and it was very hot, we had it with our shrimp and hamburgers. The onion rings were the best I ever had. I recommend going just for the friendly, warm atmosphere.

I have to agree that the service is terrible. Our family owns a cabin in nearby Alta , and the Monte Vista Inn should therefore be a pretty convenient place to dine. Unfortunately, the head waitress is a condescending and downright nasty woman who seemed to do everything possible to make our meal unpleasant. And then there are the prices, which are terrible. We have had our cabin for more than twenty years and have over the years gone here, but I will never go again.

They did everything but tell us straight out that they did not want to serve us. I live in the bay area where my children and I dine out often and that would include fine dining and I have never been treated the way we were treated at the Monte Vista Inn. My two friends and our 5 children arrived around 4:30 on a Saturday. My friend lives in the area and recommended it. First we were told that they did not think that they could accomadate us but didn't say anything to the two couples who came in behind us. She also mentioned that they don't serve dinner until 5PM. There are quite a few people in the bar area and we opt to sit by the fire place and wait and see what this woman is going find out. She comes back and says they can't do hamburgers because their fan is broken. We have children with us so she must have assumed that is all we would order. She was wrong. I told her not a problem we order off the regular menu and if we had to we would have a couple of the kids split a meal. Assuming that the meals would be big. We order hot chocolet and a couple of cocktails and then the bartender tells me that if the kids split a meal they will add an additional $7.50 per meal. I was already feeling unwelcomed and then that? I did comment to the bartender that it was obvious that they did not want to serve us. The other couples waiting couldn't believe it either. I have never been treated like that before and this is only one of many complaints I will make against the Monte Vista Inn. I am not usaully one of those people to take the time to do this but I still just cannot believe it.
