Fat City Bar & Cafe
Enter the glass-enclosed entrance to this historic building and the authentic detail inside will transport you back in time to the wild Gold Rush days. Among the numerous Tiffany lamps under intricate stained glass windows, tourists and locals gather for light lunches, weekend brunch, drinks and conversation at the authentic mid-19th century tables. In addition to the lean and tasty ostrich burgers, the menu offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, soups and appetizers. Steak and seafood entrees are an interesting mix of American, Cajun and Italian cuisine.
I ate lunch there today with some friends from the bay area. It was the worst food I've had in years. We had Chinese Chicken Salads Regular old lettuce nothing interesting, 4 cherry tomatoes samall amount of chicken and a half bag of some kind of thick heavy chip. There was enough salad dressing for four salads. That was IT. One person had a hamburger which was over cooked and thin, it was on a very big bun, overly toasted and cold. The soup was also cold. The banana cream pie was runny and we never could figure what was on the top. Don't waist your time or money.
This was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Two rounds of reorders and the food was still cold or not cooked through. The servers and managers were very rude and not offering any help but to continue to cook more food. I will never go there again and will be reccomending that no one else does. We could have gone to Denny's for a better meal with better service!
The best part of the meal was the blackened Ribeye steak It was delicious. So were the mash potatoes and onion rings. Not to mention the sauce that accompanied it. The servers were nice and very prompt. Overall awesome experience.
my fiance and i recently had lunch here and the burgers were fantastic...i had the bbq burger and he had the bacon cheddar burger.the only thing i could really complain about was the service. the bus boy was cleaning up the table as we were sitting there...and the waitress only came to check on us once..and between the time we asked for the bill and the time we got it must have been ten minutes.
about the service.. the waitress was fine, even if she wasn't around that much. but the girl that brought out our appetizer was downright offensive with all of the rude stares and mutterings she made. i understand that we all have our days (as i myself am a waitress), but it will make me think twice before my husband and i ever go there again.
oh- just a tip - DO NOT order the hot and sour soup...it will kill you with all the pepper they put in there. i like spicy, but this was horrible.
overall, better than most, as it is gorgeous, but could work on the service (and soup!) a bit.
Went for lunch/brunch on a Sunday. Food was average and a little pricey. All service staff was poor - hostess was rude, bartender took forever to acknowledge us and then wouldn't take our full order (appetizers must be ordered from a separate person - who walked away and hid when he heard we wanted to order).
Not at all like the other Fat Family restaurants which rank amoung my favorites in Sacramento.
