My family met at Sequoia for a special dinner celebration. We were treated with such grace and the food was spectacular. We toured the building and found it most fascinating. We just loved the food, ambience and everything about the place.
Thank you Sequoia and staff for making our evening most memorable!
I noticed some of those negatives on Sequoia and do not understand. Sequoia is one of those very special places that my wife and I so much enjoy going to. We have traveled to many different countries throughout the world and place Sequoia as one of those very special unforgetable places that stays with you as 'one in a million'.
The service and food has always been nothing but top rated.
From time to time (when we are in town) we have attended the cooking classes, and comedy nights which have always been a delightful experiance.
One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the Grilled Scottish Salmon, my wife's fovorite is the Apple Grilled Pork Loin.

Love this place! It's pricey, but better than it used to be.I dont know if they got new owners or what , but its so much better than it was a few years ago. I'm glad we went back - and have kept going. Oh, and the service is AWESOME. If you haven't been there in awhile - give it another try, you won't be sorry.
I have dined at The Sequoia several times, with small groups and also 3 times with groups of 70 or more. I have never been disappointed and am surprised by the negative reviews. The service is impeccable and the food is always delicious. The restaurant is elegant and well-decorated. We locals think it's wonderful to have such a great restaurant near home.
Too bad the food dosn't quite meet the expectations set by the lovely facility and good service. I have eaten here a few times and anywhere else besides Placerville this would be a mediocre chain restaurant. Black Angus, etc. The sunday brunch is OK, but the buffet part is clearly a lot of canned and wholesale packaged food items reminiscent of COSTCO products laid out on a table.
We made a reservation over the internet and it did not make it to the hostesses desk. The table we sat at had dead flowers on it. Due to them having a rotary dinner going on the waiter told us 3 times that our dinner would be out soon, and we waited a half hour between our salad and the main course, which came out luke warm. While waiting we noticed how filthy the carpet was in the room we were in. The areas near the wall had white flowers on it and around the table the flowers were brown. Makes you wonder about the kitchen. Pricey dinner. With a tip it was $83 for two.
The food is elegant, very tasty and beautiful presented; the portions are just right too. However, those with unsofisticated palates may feel otherwise. My husband wasn't impressed because he's accustomed to eating fast food. He's loves cheap buffets with plenty of fatty meat and instant potatoes so it's not surprising that he doesn't like the Sequoia.
The escargot is absolutely delicious as is the artichoke dip with shrimp. The fish entrees are wonderful, too. The atmosphere is lovely - I really enjoy eating in the dining room of the old victorian.
The only down side are the servers. The ones I've encountered seem very inexperienced and ackward. It's pretty pricey as well. Three people could easily spend $100 for lunch or dinner. I think it's worth it though.
For special occasions, the Sequoia is my favorite local restaurant and for a really nice dinner out, the only place in Placerville I would recommend - white tablecloths, quiet conversation, wonderful ambience in a beautiful old Victorian mansion, nice wine list, excellent food and service. The prices are what youd expect for a very nice restaurant and all things considered, not unreasonable. After all, this isnt Applebees.
This Queen Anne Victorian home in Placerville's Historic District provides a wonderful taste of rich heritage, both inside and out.
Inside, there are three deluxe guest rooms, each with its own theme and private bath, a light welcome snack ...
