Bamiyan - Citrus Heights
Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant is very unique and one of its kind. It brings the wonderful and delicious taste of the 5000-year historical world flavor in today's lifestyle. If you haven't been to Bamiyan you don't know what you are missing! To the Health Conscious Afghan cuisine at Bamiyan Restaurant is a collection of authentic traditional recipes, a blend of tastes, which are exotic. Afghanistan is a land-locked country, and cooks rely on meats, freshwater fish, vegetables, dried peas, beans, fresh and dried fruits, yogurt, noodles, rice, and a distinctive palette of seasonings. Afghans do not use butter or heavy cream in their cooking. Vegetable oil, corn oil or olive oil are used for cooking. In almost all the recipes in Afghan cooking, a small amount of herbs, spices and seasonings are used to flavor the dish and add a sensational taste, not too overwhelming.
When I first took my wife there, she was less than impressed with the location. On stepping inside though, all hesitation disappeared with the plasant, clean decor and welcoming staff.
The wine list sucks but the food is excellant with dishes full of many subtle and , to me, unusual flavors.
Bamiyan's food is delicious, fresh and definitely out of the ordinary. Great for adventurous eaters and with a wide enough selection for those who are pickier. The restaurant itself is a delightful surprise of gracious, comfortable decor once you walk through the door. Totally unexpected after the rather utilitarian exterior of the strip mall. Service has always been exemplary.
We can't stand the chain restaurants, and avoid them whenever possible. Luckily that tendency allows us to discover the gems like Bamiyan. Can't recommend it highly enough!
Went here with 10-12 friends when all of the blah chain restaurants (which are always crowded despite sucking) got so tedious...
I've been here four or five times recently, and each time the service and food has been outstanding. Even the less-than-adventurous friends have found themselves wanting to go back to Bamiyan after a couple weeks.
