I'm a local and one of my favorite things to do is to go out to restaurants.
This is one of the best and most reliable. The fish is always fresh and certain times of the year the halibut is flown in from Alaska. I also like the fact that
suits or blue jeans are acceptable. I've been a returning customer for over 20
years. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have
Average at best. The oysters were good and clam chowder was good, but the special of the day that was fresh was way over cooked. I asked for medium rare, but it was like a brick. Now I did go at 830 at night on Monday, but still the person never cooked this the way I asked. The staff was all very friendly and nice and the location was good as well. Maybe it was a bad night for food.
UPDATE: I don't know what happened, they must have new management! I went to the Waterfront Cafe this past weekend to order my usual bay shrimp sandwich and it was HORRIBLE (shrimp was old and croissant was flat). They also seem to be HORRIBLY overpriced! Very disappointed!!!
My old review: Their bay shrimp salad or bay shrimp on a croissant sandwich with red cabbage coleslaw is great for lunch. Be sure to check out Sunday morning breakfast when the jazz band is playing. A real homey place with great atmosphere. In Old Town by the water, easy access to shopping afterwards!. Great, great, great!!!
I live in Eureka, and we have lots of quality dining choices. Our family eats there at least a couple times a month. One thing that keeps us coming back to eat here is that it is consistent in both food and service. They have a nice full bar and four good beers on tap - (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, North Coast Red Seal, Mad River Steelhead, and Widmar Hefeweizen) The food on the ever-changing Special Board is always innovative although a bit pricey at times. The regular menu ia good and varied with everything from great 1/2 hamburgers to Oyster Stew. Service is outstanding.
We did the Waterfront Cafe in Eureka twice-once for dinner (Lazos is no more!) and then the next day for afternoon nibbles and drinks before dinner at another place. Our group has a wide interest in foods and aversion to certain things but the general impession of our entrees and afternoon 'tapas' was definitely positive. The service was good (thanks Joanne) and prompt and friendly. Crabcakes were a bit different but good and the selection of beverages (beer)(Red Seal) wide. The BBQ porkloin was dry and skimpy in size but otherwise our overall impression was good. And the view outside was nice too.
