As Santa Rosaac2s most romantic restaurant, where thousands of couples over the years have celebrated engagements, weddings and anniversaries. Family-owned La Gare still keeps in mind its founding principles: fresh local ingredients, top French and European cooking techniques, and making everything served in the restaurant from scratch. La Gare French Restaurant is located in the heart of Santa Rosa's historic railroad square. The restaurant opened in July 1979 and has been family owned and operated ever since. The decor and ambiance reflect an elegant old world charm. Roger, with his sister Jacqueline as gracious hostess, continue a tradition begun by their parents, Swiss-born Marco and Gladys Praplan. I cannot believe all these good reviews. The worst ever for the money. Nothing was good. Vegetables tasted like they were frozen. Boxed rice piloffs taste better. The fish tasted like mustard and vinegar.

Usually our family favorite but our last visit was not good at all. The special my sister had for her birthday was a seafood dish and was over cooked and had little taste. My steak was not at all like they used to be also. The key to a great restaurant is consistant food and it fails at that. We will be heading for a new destination for celebrations, especially when spending $300 for six people.

Very pricey for the quality. They used canned mushrooms on a dinner entree and a sauce that tasted like it was from a can too. Also, my brother didn't even take more then 2 bites of his chicken and he's not a picky eater! Butter for the bread was supposedly homemade and organic but it tasted a lot like margarine (and I make butter). Total bill for 3 was 80 bucks. Not a memorable experience and no creativity to the meals. Wait staff was pretty good however.

They are always very busy but always there is the personal touch that separates the average restaraunt from the superior. The menu is superior and the staff is great!. The owners watch over things constantly to assure the very best service and food quality every visit. The wine list is also excellent. Just expect a great experience.

I started going to La Gare over 12 years ago. I do not live in the area but whenever I visit, La Gare in a must for dinner. The owners obviously take great care of their staff and it shows. Mark one of my favorite waiters has been there all these years. I have seen the staff brake away to sing happy birthday to a waiter. This all shows in the level of service you get as a diner. The food is always great! the service impecable. Dinners come with soup and salad andthe menu was perfected and has remained mainly unchanged forever. The specials are always wonderful and the meats are to die for. If you are a lamb lover, the rack of lamb is a must. the sauce is great. This place is definately a local favorite and secret. All I can if you want a great meal great service a welcoming experience,eat at La Gare. By the way the Grande Manier souffle is not on the menu but ask if they have it WOW

I was told there was usually standing room only. We got seated right away. Our drink order was taken and served quickly. Our waitress was knowledgable in what was offered and served us quickly and proficently.

Dawn's Favorite Romantic French Food

I have been a very content customer of La' Gare for many years. The Family owned business gives wonderful ambiance, fantastic food, and warm friendship that I have always felt, each and every time I have walked in the front door. My favorite seating while dinning at La' Gare, is to be seated in a cozy round booth. La' Gare was always so kind to carry my favorite wine, a sweet Muscat. I have always enjoyed La' Gare's Flaming Strawberry Desert after a wonderful dinner. La' Gare has always kept a very dear place in my heart. I have spent many special occasions dinning at La' Gare, and look I forward to many more in the future. ~Bon Appetit~ Dawn Louise L.
